Was Sheets's dad at the game? He's a former Oriole, right?

Yep.

Very cool 😎

Gavin was one of our scouting departments really good finds. I hope he's a Padre for awhile👍🏽

The Padres have placed infielder/designated hitter Miguel Andujar on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain (retroactive to June 11). To take his 26-man roster spot, the Padres selected outfielder Nick Solakfrom Triple-A El Paso. They now have a full 40-man roster.

Game 2 Lineup

1. Tatis 2B

2. Merrill CF

3. Machado 3B

4. Bogaerts SS

5. Sheets 1B

6. Taylor LF

7. Wagner DH

8. Bowen RF

9. Fermin C

Vasquez P

Who would have thought just before ST started:

  1. of the 13 position players on the 26 man roster on June 13th
    1. 5 would be career minor leaguers: Wagner; Duran; Solak; Taylor; and Bowen
    2. 1 would be a veteran signed on Feb 15 to a minor league deal: France
    3. 1 would be a Korean INF with no stateside experience: Song
    4. 2 of the "core" would be having the worst seasons in their careers: Machado and Merrill
  2.  for the 5 SP:
    1. Pivetta and Musgrove would be on perpetual IL ... and Waldron would join them.
    2. 3 of the SP would be low cost reclamation projects who signed late: Marquez (Feb 16); Buehler (Feb 17 to a MiL contract); Canning (Feb 17 to the IL); Giolito (Apr 22 well into the season).

With all that 2 games over .500 and in a playoff slot ... strange season.

Padres did score 8 runs. The Orioles knocked out Bogaerts with a headshot and nearly did it to Machado.

Padres need to win the rubber match to take the series.

GO PADRES!

Listened to the post-game by Stammen:

  1. After Bogaerts got hit in the head ... initially stayed in the game then started to feel it ... he they took him out and are monitoring tonight / tomorrow.
  2. apparently more concerning to Stammen was the hit to the head of Fermin on the bounced warm-up pitch ... that got him out of the game immediately as he felt woozy. Stammen said they have been monitoring Fermin closely because of the many head hits so far this season. The cumulative effect of multiple head shots can be a real issue.

So, I guess an outside chance of two more concussion IL stints. If Bogaerts expect a run by Song at SS. More of a question if Fermin is to the IL ... Campy apparently is not ready with no rehab work yet and no other catcher on the 40 man. Probably one of two choices: Hunt who is off the IL and been catching for EP for about a week (vet with good defense) or outside chance the make the move with Salas. Either case it would be short term until Campy is activated. Would think Hunt.

Is this the same Hunt we packaged to Tampa for Snell?

Be fun to see him in a Padres uniform 👍🏽

Yes ... Padres signed him as a FA to a minor league deal this winter but he got injured early and was on the minor league IL for a long time before rehabbing in AZ. Recently activated to EP.

Hunt has pretty good numbers in El Paso: 45 AB, .289 AVG, 3 HR, 8 RBI, .431 OBP, .533 SLG, .964 OPS.

Has he had a reasonably decent Minor League career? He obviously hasn't turned out to be the player we'd hoped for when we drafted him but has he become a good game caller? Defender? Framer? Throwing guys out?

I imagine Freddy will be going on the IL( does baseball have any concussion protocols like the NFL? I imagine catchers probably get their bell rung as often as WR's going over the middle!) and Duran can't man the position alone.
