I imagine Freddy will be going on the IL( does baseball have any concussion protocols like the NFL? I imagine catchers probably get their bell rung as often as WR's going over the middle!) and Duran can't man the position alone.

He's a guy with a lot of tools that has shown some flashes at times, but hasn't put it together consistently enough to get a shot. He's supposed to be a good defender with a strong arm. Offensively he reportedly has huge raw power. He hasn't been able to get to it in game. High school catchers often need a lot of development time. Having said that he's a 27 year old yet to make his debut who is back with the organization after 3 others moved on from him. I wouldn't expect much from him.

They could either put Jake on the 60-day or DFA either Marquez or Waldron.

Padres Select Blake Hunt, Designate Ty Adcock For Assignment

The Padres have selected the contract of catcher Blake Hunt from Triple-A El Paso, according to a team announcement. Catcher Freddy Fermin is going on the 7-day concussion injured list in the meantime. To clear room for Hunt on the 40-man roster, right-hander Ty Adcock is being designated for assignment.

Possible ... he has not been in much the last few days. Also possible just a reflection of his current slump in the last 15 games (42 AB) ... 190/192/310 with 16K. Maybe a little bit of both?

Also, his is the emergency catcher so in the transition from Fermin to Hunt ... maybe sit him "just in case"

Thus is the first time in 3 weeks the Padres won 2 in a row when they took 2 from the A's and had been quite awhile they won back to back series.

Buehler was solid with no walks and the offense gave him run support.

The Padres head to St. Louis next to face the birds.

2 series wins in a row with the offense looking better. They'll need to keep it up in this next stretch going into the All-Star break. 26 games against a lot of good teams with only a few days off. This could be a make or break stretch for the season.
