Quote from fenn68 on August 5, 2019, 12:07 pmAs the Padres experience an unsightly 30 days from a W-L perspective ... how are they looking comparatively on some of the sore points vs. the rest of MLB ... some observations that surprised me (albeit that small sample size caution) ... over the past 30 days in all MLB:
Team: 15th in WAR (ex Pitching); 14th in wRC+ both imply a .500 team then include defense ... maybe the real surprise given what we have recently seen ... 2nd BEST in MLB. (says a lot about defense in MLB these days). The optimistic aspect is that moving up to contender quality offense may not be that be that much heavy lifting.
Now consider Margot (the target of much discontent) has in the past 30 days gone 282/393/572 (OPS 984) ... a 153 wRC+ in 85 PA ... that is pretty good. Maybe this re-energizes his future as the Padre CF BUT getting those stats up also should increase his trade value .... and if the Padres are really focused on adding a top of the rotation arm he could be a key chip as part of a bigger deal. Even sharing time with Myers (who dragged down the CF composite) ... the Padres CF in the past 30 days was tied for 9th in WAR ... not sure most of us saw it that way and another case of MLB having production issues in CF.
The catcher split is doing fine. Mejia ... 298/344/439 (783). Hedges ... 233/314/500 (814). That sits the Padres 7th in WAR ..... 8th in wRC+ ... 4th tied in dWAR. As much as Mejia is critiqued for poor defense and Hedges is critiqued for poor offense .. somehow the combo is working ... another case the catching in the rest of MLB is just plain bad.
On the flip side, Renfroe has slumped for his earlier hot run ... 203/260/380 (643). Returns Renfroe to the debate who is he really ... the hot streak or the cold streak?

You jinxed it windsor, although to be fair, I thought that with 80+ pitches even with the no hitters going on Lamet wasnt gonna come out for the 7th, the worse part is that he did not have somebody warming up and now is 2nd and 3rd, and Lamet on 102 pitches

Quote from WindsorUK on August 6, 2019, 9:39 pmI'm fairly certain I could hit off of Morejon!
Dude throws meat- right down the pipe!
Just taking cuts, any major leaguer can hit this guy. He needs to be able to locate his pitches better. Even at 98, NO PITCHER can survive in the middle of the plate.

Quote from WindsorUK on August 6, 2019, 9:56 pmAre players allowed to be out of uniform on the field?
Tatis's jersey was untucked for about 4/5 pitches and the umps said NOTHING, whilst he was on first and third.
Looked horrible.
