Robert Gasser with another great outing.

Allowed only 4 earned runs in his last five starts over 30 innings.

Has anyone seen Connor Hollis play and have any thoughts?

This kid has a .400 lifetime OBP…..seems to be a 15hr/15sb kind of guy as a middle infielder.

How is his defense?

He seems to be a guy who just got squeezed out of a great Farm system and we may have been the beneficiaries.

On a separate note, how is Eguy Rosario’s infield defense?

Reggie Lawson also pitching much better.

Hasn’t allowed more than 1 ER in his last 5 starts.

If he could just limit his BB’s,and stay healthy of course,he may finally have a chance to reach his potential.

I’ve been pretty worried about the arms on the Farm, but I feel a little better after Gasser and Lawsons’ recent success.

Still hoping we kill it in the Draft with pitchers.

He has a way to go to show he can make it to the ML. Not the biggest guy … more of a middle INF (that is what he was in college). Already 27 … non-drafted after 5 years in college … released by TB after only 3 years in their system (they did not have to) and good stats.

I don’t buy “squeezed out from a deep TB system” … any player with potential will survive longer than 3 years and having shown production in high A / AA.

So, at a loss what happened in TB unless he “aged out” at 27 (see Cronenworth) … maybe TB does not like prospects below AAA at that age. Don’t think he was on any Rays’ top prospect list.

Maybe the Padres get lucky and he develops into a useful utility player (see Batten) … hard to see much more.

It took a couple of months to Lawson to get it together this year but based on his recent performance (and the lack of near term SP in the system) … a good chance the gets added to the 40 man this winter.

See the Padres signed another long shot pitcher out of independent ball … Duncan Snider who is already 24. Graduated in 2021 for little Upper Iowa University and went to INDY ball. I can see why he was not drafted after a “nice” career in college but a very small college and was already 23 at the time. Hit headlines with a 16K performance a week or so ago … so? No idea on his stuff but 6’7” / 230.

AJP finds u ... 6-7" 230 if he has a good FB and secondary pitch or 2..maybe we lucked out into a BP arm

You all need to see this......Eguy Rosario for El Paso......That is a baller right there

https://www.mlb.com/news/padres-prospect-eguy-rosario-makes-spectacular-catch

And in the second game of the doubleheader, Eguy hit 2 HRs and went 3-5 with a stolen base!  After a horrible April, when he only had 7 walks against 30 K's, Eguy has really turned it around.  Was swinging at everything and getting badly fooled by change-ups and sliders.  Since then, has become much more patient at the plate, working deep into the count and fouling off pitcher's pitches.  Actually, this is what Abrams needs to do - learn how to become a professional hitter - since his natural talent is rated far better than Eguy's.  If Abrams can get his walk rate to at least 10%, that would put his speed more into play on the base paths - again, something both Eguy and Esteury Ruiz have done this year.  I hope he learns sooner than later, but as it stands now, he needs much more minor league AB's before he can be a solid everyday contributor.

To respond to the question about Eguy's defense, it is generally good although he sometimes botches the easy play.  He is much better at 2nd and 3rd, but is capable at shortstop and has good range at all positions.  Like you saw yesterday, he can be spectacular at times on defense but you want that consistency and he's getting better at it.  Eguy could be a solid utility player but probably not a starter with a contending team.

Although he seems to have been around forever … Rosario is only 22 and in AAA.

Still in the development stages … but looking like he could have a ML career sooner than  later. His presence in AAA should allow the Padres some flexibility in roster roster structure going forward if he can secure that back-up INF role (and maybe work in some. OF.
