Chihuahuas 14, Reno Aces 1
Key Statistics: SS Mason McCoy 4-for-4, 3 R, SB (16), 2 RBI; CF Carlos Rodriguez 3-for-4, 2 R, HR (2), 4 RBI, BB; 1B Nick Pratto 2-for-4, 2 R, 2B, SB (2), 2 RBI, BB; 3B Clay Dungan 2-for-4, R, BB, 2 RBI; DH Dylan Grego, 2-for-4, R, 2B; RHP Matt Waldron 3 IP, 3 H, ER, BB, 2 K; RHP Sean Boyle (W, 6-4) 3 IP, H, BB, 3 K

Prospect Watch: El Paso took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth, then scored seven runs in the eighth inning to turn Friday’s contest into a blowout win. … Mason McCoy had a perfect night at the plate, with four singles and a sacrifice fly in the win. It was the 31-year-old’s second four-hit game of the season. McCoy occupies a 40-man roster primarily because of his ability to handle shortstop. However, he is in the midst of his best offensive season as a professional. Friday’s game raised his OPS to .834 and wRC+ to 103, which both represent career-highs. … Carlos Rodriguez, whose season-best hitting streak ended Thursday, bounced back with a big night at the plate with three hits, including his second homer of the season. He also drove in four. The 26-year-old is a perfect example of how offensive production is measured, especially in the PCL. Rodriguez’s big night raised his average to .304, and he sports a solid .370 on-base percentage, but thanks to a lackluster .393 slugging percentage, his overall offensive production is well below the league average. Despite the lack of power, he has a solid 10% walk rate, and his 10.8% K-rate is the third-best in the league (former Chihuahua and current Padre Nick Solak ranks second). … Former first-rounder Nick Pratto singled, doubled, and stole his second base as part of a multi-hit effort. The 27-year-old is hitting .290/.405/.548 with a pair of homers since joining the Padres’ organization. … Matt Waldron made his second start on his second rehab assignment of the year and tossed three strong innings in the win. He allowed a run on three hits, walking one and striking out three while using his knuckleball 30% of the time. Waldron appeared in six games (three starts) with the Padres this season, pitching to an 8.49 ERA. He’s allowed just one run in 17.1 innings with El Paso. The organization can keep him in the minors for 24 more days before having to activate him or designate him for assignment, since he is out of options.
Missions 8, Corpus Christi Hooks 6
Key Statistics: SS Ryan Jackson 2-for-5, 2 RBI; 1B Romeo Sanabria 2-for-4, R, BB, RBI; CF Braedon Karpathios 2-for-5, R; 3B Luis Verdugo 2-for-3, 3 R, 2 HR (6) 3 RBI, 2 BB; C Brendan Durfee 1-for-4, R, HR (2), RBI; RHP Ian Koenig 6 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K; RHP Andrew Moore IP, BB, 2 K; RHP Sadrac Franco (W, 4-3) IP, 4 H, 4 ER, BB, K; RHP Francis Peña (S, 1) IP

Prospect Watch: The Missions jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Corpus Christi mounted a comeback to tie things up. San Antonio scored a pair in the ninth to earn the victory. … The winning hit came off the bat of Luis Verdugo, who connected on a two-run homer. It was part of a two-homer night for the 25-year-old infielder. The blasts were his fifth and sixth of the season. The older brother of TinCaps’ infielder Rosman Verdugo signed with the Padres in the off-season after playing in the Phillies’ organization last year. He has a .704 OPS for San Antonio this season. … Braedon Karpathios continued his hot hitting with another multi-hit game. The 23-year-old singled twice and scored a run. Karpathios had a miserable April, but since May 1, he’s been one of the best hitters in the Texas League. Coming into Friday’s contest, Karpathios is hitting .298/.429/.443 with a remarkable 18% walk-rate over his last 37 games. His K-rate of 30% is still very concerning, but he’s always had elite walk rates. If the left-handed hitter can improve his contact rate, he has a chance to be a part of the Padres’ future. … Ian Koenig allowed just one single and faced the minimum number of batters through five innings before giving up a pair of runs on in the sixth inning. He came back out for the seventh inning having thrown only 75 pitches, but gave up a single and walk to end his night. It was a system-best fourth time the righty has completed at least six innings in a game this year as he relied on his sinker/slider mix to strike out seven. The 25-year-old has pitched well in June. In four starts, he has a 2.05 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP while holding opposing batters to a .147 batting average. Koenig had a few moments last season with Fort Wayne, but ended the season with an ERA well over five. This year, he has pitched to a 3.65 ERA in 13 starts that is his best performance since signing as an undrafted free agent in 2022.
Roster Move: As we reported on the application formerly known as Twitter, the Missions placed Ethan Salas on the seven-day injured list with a mild oblique strain, retroactive to Thursday. As of now, Brendan Durfee, who connected on a solo homer Friday, figures to get the bulk of the playing time behind the dish.
South Bend Cubs 7, TinCaps 6 (11 innings)
Key Statistics: CF Kasen Wells 2-for-5, 2 R, HR (1), RBI, BB, SB (15); C Carlos E. Rodriguez 2-for-4, R, 3B, 2 BB, RBI; DH Kavares Tears 1-for-4, R, BB, 2 RBI; LHP Kash Mayfield 2 IP, 2 H, 4 K; RHP Isaiah Lowe 2 IP, 2 R, ER, 3 BB, K; LHP Braian Salazar 2.2 IP, 2 H, 2 K; LHP C.J. Prospect Watch: Much like their parent club, Fort Wayne scored five runs in the first to take a commanding lead, but couldn’t hold it. Fort Wayne ultimately lost to the Cubs in 11 innings. … Kasen Wells got the scoring started by swatting his first homer of the season in the bottom of the first inning. The blast hit high off the right field wall, and the speedy Wells rounded the bases for the inside-the-park homer. The 22-year-old has made things happen with solid bat-to-ball skills and elite speed. His multi-hit effort raised his average to .298, and he leads the club with a .407 on-base percentage. Wells’ offensive profile is limited by a lack of power production though as he has just three homers and a .071 isolated power rate in over 600 professional plate appearances. … While one Carlos Rodriguez homered for the Chihuahuas, the organization’s other Carlos Rodriguez reached base four times for the TinCaps. The left-handed hitting backstop singled, tripled, drew two walks, and had an RBI in the loss. The 23-year-old broke out with the Storm last season, hitting .276/.404/.454 – a slash-line 38 percent above the league average. In 2026, Rodriguez has seen his strikeout rate increase slightly from 19% to 22%, but his line has been suppressed by a BABIP of just .228 – 100 points lower than the mark he produced last year with the Storm. Rodriguez has an intriguing offensive profile, but he will need to show more in the season’s second half. … After taking a scheduled pause to “deload” last week, Kash Mayfield returned to the rotation Friday with an abbreviated outing. The prized lefty pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit while striking out four. Mayfield has tossed 42 innings this year and is only 18 innings away from his total all of last year. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the organization bring him along slowly, to keep him active all year while working around 100 innings. The good news is that Mayfield has not had any arm issues this season. Friday’s start lowered his ERA to 3.00.

Prospect Watch: After winning the first three in this series, the Storm fell behind early and lost to the Giants Friday night. … Center fielder Ryan Wideman singled, drew a walk, and swiped his MILB-leading 43rd stolen base of the year. After struggling last season in a late-season cameo, Wideman has been remarkably consistent in 2026. He has hit .300 every month, and thus far in June, the former Western Kentucky outfielder is hitting .346/.452/.558. … Dawson Willis had a pair of hits, including his first Single-A homer. The undrafted free agent infielder made his pro debut a few weeks ago in the desert and quickly hit his way out by producing a .990 OPS. The physical third baseman is off to a 6-for-13 start in three games with the storm, but all seven outs have come by way of the strikeout. … After mowing down Ontario last week, Kruz Schoolcraft had a bit of a speed bump Friday night. On a positive note, he cleared five innings for the third consecutive start, but he allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits in the process. He walked three and struck out four. In his three June starts, Schoolcraft has a 4.80 ERA. … Making his second appearance with the Storm and fifth overall rehab appearance, righty Daison Acosta struck out two and issued a walk across 1.2 innings while stretching out beyond one inning for the first time. The 27-year-old, who signed a big league contract over the winter but was outrighted off the roster early in spring training, will likely land in El Paso shortly.
ACL Reds 7, ACL Padres 1 (7 innings)
Key Statistics: RF Jesmaylin Arias 1-for-3, R, HR (4), RBI; C Jack Mathey 1-for-3, 2B; SS Jhoan De La Cruz 1-for-3, 3B; Lan-Hong Su (L, 0-1) 2.2 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 K; RHP Dalvi Nunez 1.2 IP, K

Prospect Watch: The ACL Padres managed just four hits and lost to the Reds down the year in Goodyear. … Jesmaylin Arias drove in the club’s only run by connecting on his fourth homer of the season, setting a new career-high in the process. The 19-year-old is in his second season in the desert. In 22 games, he is sporting a career-high .811 OPS. … Catcher Jack Mathey had a double in three plate appearances. The 22-year-old is out of Ohio Dominican, a Division II program in Columbus. Mathey has bounced around the organization, spending time in El Paso, San Antonio, and the complex since signing with the Padres as a free agent in 2024. Despite being in the organization for two seasons, he’s only amassed 70 at-bats and is hitting .154 in the desert this year. … Lan-Hong Su was knocked around and took his first loss as a professional. He tossed 2.2 innings and allowed five runs on six hits, walking two and striking out three. Su, 19, came into the outing having allowed just two runs in his first 13 innings as a professional. Overall, the righty from Taiwan has a 4.02 ERA in 15.2 innings.
Roster Transactions: The Padres reinforced the rookie league roster by bringing over four players from the DSL. Outfielders Abraham Bastidas and Eddson Martinez, who both have an OPS over 1.200 while repeating in the Dominican, righty Miguel Alvarez and left-hander Marco Eluscat will all finish the season in the ACL.
