Former top prospect Cristian Pache has been informed by OAK that he will not make the team. He is out of options, and destined for a trade or even a DFA.

Just another example of being cautious of prospects projection versus the possibility of flaming out at any time.

Yep, and he was one of those "top prospects" with all the tools except the hitting needed work. Seems those types get rated higher than they should and fail to develop the hit skill most of the time.

My theme has always focus on the hit skill as the primary evaluation tool then look to maximizing the supporting skills.

And why you trade prospects for proven major league stars "every time".

Another hopeful bounce-back candidate is Kirby Yates, who has only pitched 11 big league innings since 2019 due to his second career Tommy John and more elbow inflammation upon his 2022 return. Yates’ fastball velocity during the spring of 2023 has at least been on par with his pre-injury level, in the 92-94 mph range with his usual splitter.

Wish nothing but the best for Kirby, hope he can return to his former glory

So, if we have no chance to sign Othani beyond this year, do you trade Salas for him at the deadline?

While every situation is different. I would say no to a trade of Ohtani for Salas. Simply because Ohtani is too short of term rental to part with as much as the LAA will want.

Soto was a different story due to the amount of control he had remaining.

No, not for a two month rental. Now I would trade for Ohtani with a package of "lesser" prospects (who the LAA would likely reject) ... only use top prospects in my view to get multiple years control of top ML talent.

This is interesting. There are reports out that Yariel Rodriguez left his contract with the Chunichi Dragons and cut ties with the Cuban Baseball Federation. Apparently he's in the Dominican Republic and looking to sign an MLB deal. He was dominant in relief in Japan last year and can touch 100. He's been a starter in the past and got the start for Cuba against The Netherlands in their WBC opener.

Tough opening day for CJ Abrams.

Hitless with 2 errors in a loss to the Braves

Luis Torrens (C) CHI-N - Mar. 28

Torrens had his contract selected from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The 26-year-old will open the 2023 regular season as the third catcher for the Cubs, behind the platoon of Tucker Barnhart and Yan Gomes. Torrens batted just .225/.283/.298 over 166 major-league plate appearances last year with the Mariners, who non-tendered him in November.
