Around the League...non Padres

Harrison Bader looks like he is headed for the IL to start the season (oblique strain). A lot of injuries building up in NY.

This may be the opening for the NYY to sign Profar (Judge back to CF) ... does not appear they are eager to slot in Hicks or play Stanton in the OF.

With the mounting injuries in the COL OF, it looks as if they are also showing interest in Profar as well.

Out of luck and injuries, Profar could get his $10M, and Boras will be all I meant to do that! 😂😂

That's two key players, Lux for LA and Diaz for NY, that are out for the season.  Let's hope nothing similar happens to the Padres.

Congrats to Estury Ruiz on making the Opening Day roster for OAK. It looks as if he had a great ST, and should get a good chance in OAK for some playing time.

Braves taking the long view by keeping back Fried and Wright until they get fully stretched out.  That's why they are so tough every year.  Good player management/strategy.

Phillies' Matt Strahm: Confirmed as rotation member
by RotoWire Staff
(2 hrs ago) Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Sunday that Strahm will start the Phillies' fifth game of the regular season April 4 versus the Yankees in New York, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. As anticipated, Strahm will get the opportunity to open the season as a member of the Philadelphia rotation while Ranger Suarez (forearm) is on the shelf. Considering that Suarez has yet to resume throwing bullpen sessions, he could spend more than the 15-day minimum on the injured list, setting Strahm up for multiple turns through the rotation. Strahm hasn't been a regular starter in the big leagues since 2019, but he prepared for the appointment to the rotation by covering two-plus innings in each of his most recent three spring outings. Thomson said he expects Strahm to cover around 65-to-70 pitches in his first start of the regular season before upping his pitch count in his subsequent starts.

SP Joey Lucchesi optioned to minors

2023 Positional Power Rankings: Bullpen (No. 1-15)

Another hopeful bounce-back candidate is Kirby Yates, who has only pitched 11 big league innings since 2019 due to his second career Tommy John and more elbow inflammation upon his 2022 return. Yates’ fastball velocity during the spring of 2023 has at least been on par with his pre-injury level, in the 92-94 mph range with his usual splitter.

Saw a note that Profar did not make ST with the Rockies with visa issues and will have a late start to is season.

Don’t know all the ins and outs of “work visas” … but always surprised when players have last minute issues in getting the visa … especially since they have been through the process before.

Former top prospect Cristian Pache has been informed by OAK that he will not make the team. He is out of options, and destined for a trade or even a DFA.

Just another example of being cautious of prospects projection versus the possibility of flaming out at any time.
