Maybe a bit depends on whether the Padres dip under the CBT this year and how much Siedler is willing to go over next year ... and what strategic payroll deletes are made. Could see signing Bell - Profar - Drury and set a starting line-up for a few years (given little coming in the system).

If need to shave some money ... it comes from the pen and Hader, Pomeranz, Martinez, Suarez ... dealing one (or more) would help and gamble with highly volatile RP from year to year.

Gallo is not guaranteed to be any good anywhere but Chavez Latrine.

$8 mil per. (Short term deal).. you know the same amt Pham was worth to AJP after a mediocre season

Last FA class

Joc Peterson was signed for $6mil

Pham $7.5 (Reds)

Vogelbach DH $1 mil

Most anyone else was higher than the top 2.. Iglesias ($5mil) was the other solid bat position player wise signed for less than those 2... Drury was signed for next to nothing as well...

Nelson Cruz was $15 mil on the highest end of the non superstars like Seager /Correa etc..

Preller almost has to hold onto Grisham (CF), Kim (SS), and Cronenworth (2B) for 2023 and figure out the world of Tatis in ST. Padres (given their payroll and limited trade chips) can’t afford to bring in a quality CF/SS/2B who may just be a back-up. Quire a box for Preller.

Tatis will be back in May … the biggest problem lands on Melvin’s lap … not only were to play him (maybe some OF some SS some DH) while keeping Tatis happy and integrating him back with the rest of the players.

I guess if they don’t sign a 1B … might see that mix few like with Tatis at SS … Kim at 2B … Cronenworth at 1B combined with a carousel of players at DH/all positions.
