I dont know why but I am sensing a Jake Cronesworth trade this offseason..

Fenn, we must have been typing at the same time.

Sure Tatis and Kim can more than handle 2B and SS. But if they do, then you have another hole to fill, and lose a left handed bat, and SD is already to RHH heavy, especially when it comes to power.

In all honesty, if you are looking to trade a MIF, then I would keep Crone, and look to trade Kim. Keeps the LHH bat, and frees up almost $3M in salary. Plus Crone has one more year of control than Kim. And SS usually retrieve more in trade than 2B.

Reading on CBS and they have their Top 20 trade candidates. And they list SD as a possible landing spot for a couple of the players.

#5 Pablo Lopez-SP MIA

#9 Tyler Glasnow-SP TAM

#13 Tyler O'Neill-LF STL

#14 Rhys Hoskins-PHI

#19 Corbin Burnes-MIL

I dont know why but I am sensing a Jake Cronesworth trade this offseason..proj arb $4.2 in arb 1.. probably means $7 arb 2..and $12 arb 3.. or there abouts.. Merrill will be ready by arb 2 definetely by arb 3.. if he can be the center piece on a Kirk or like I proposed above a trade for a controllable stud 1B spec or player..I think AJP needs to explore those options.. also Marlins are looking for hitters ..maybe we can get one of their SP (not Alcantara obviously) for a Jake package

Seems like Tatis/Kim..pr Kim/Tatis can cover SS/2B and Rosario can serve as the utility IF giving us the best way to utilize Crone (trade) in such scenario while keeping Tatis on the dirt .. and putting our resources to better use SP/1B/ or/and C...

That was fairly obvious the moment AJ sent everyone else to DC.

He's good, proven and controllable at super low cost. Really the only Padre that fits that criteria as a tradeable asset.

And you generally have to trade something of value to get something of value. If Jake is our best chip to bring in an SP( or 1B or LF), wouldn't shock me to see him go, given AJ's proclivity to move anyone and everyone!

Burnes, as in Cy Young Burnes? Man, Mikwaukee would catch hell for trading him....wouldn't they? Shame we have nothing to give them for him.

Also might be worth trading for Hoskins just so he can't kick us in the nuts anymore!!!!!

Hard to see the Padres making a deal for a top quality ML asset ... first they are usually encumbered with a larger salary and shorter control ... second, if they are good the other team is not giving them away and the Padres' trade chips are limited (Merrill if don't want to further short the projected 26 man or create a new hole by dealing a quality MLer like Cronenworth / Kim that would have to be refilled with a more expensive alternative for similar quality).

So, trade cheaper assets for more expensive assets under a limited payroll reducing the quality they can buy on the FA market to fill the holes that remain. Seems like spinning wheels with little forward progress.

Probably some room for a deal for a serviceable upgrade to the bench / part-time player mix ... low cost type for a RP prospect or two ... especially if they sign some SP. Only the Padres know who they project as ML RP with potential for 2023 out of the prospects, so room to play (maybe).

Hader, Hill, Morejon, Castillo, Cosgrove, Groome, Weathers, Kerr, and Pomeranz (maybe) give some flexibility around LHRP ... if you are not reaching for the moon in a return .... could see some chips there especially late in ST once we know more on Pomeranz.

RHRP is a bit more challenging with Garcia, Wilson, Crismatt, then the comers in Baez, Felipe, Lugo, Knehr and probably some unknown to us arms.

Yes, Cy Young Burnes. I am sure that MIL would catch hell from their fans, especially if he ended up in SD.

And yes, either the writer for CBS really values some of the prospects left in the SD system, or he was just going by the fact that Preller is a CRAZY BOY and can get creative, or he knows very little about SD system and doesnt realize that we have burnt most of our system in recent trades.

Probably the latter,

Two problems with Hoskins IMO. One, he is RHH and we are set with RH power IMO. Two, his project arb money is probably right around the same dollars as Bell will get FA wise, so why not just spend money and not have to send away limited prospects?

Once again, I dont think the CBS writer really has a handle on the situation here in SD. Just sees a hole and says, Oh Hoskins is good.

Burnes salary is only projected to be around $11M via arbitration per MLBTR, and he is controlled for 2024 season as well. So in reality, would be cheaper than Senga this season, and is MLB proven.

However you are correct in saying that we cannot put together a package for him with the limited prospects SD still has, or creating a ML hole for SD.

Campusano/Weathers to Miami for Pablo Lopez?

I agree...if we trade a ML starting IF it will be Kim rather than Crone for several reasons.

Crone, while an All Star, had a down season while Kim increased his value.

After the top SS free agents are signed someone may give a Kings Ransom for 2 years of Kim.
