Prospect Watch: After going down 17-1 on Friday in Hogetown, the Missions made it much closer but still dropped their fifth game of the series, and their seventh straight. San Antonio was up 2-1 in the fifth until Eric Yost, who came on after Jamie Hitt allowed three straight singles to start the frame, may have had the worst inning of his season. Yost, who has been one of the more reliable pitchers in the organization this season, threw two wild pitches to give the Sod Poodles the lead, followed by a single to add another run. Yost got a pair of force-outs for two outs, but a walk and a hit by pitch followed by a double brought in two more. With the club down 9-3 in the ninth, Romeo Sanabria and Alex McCoy hit back-to-back home runs, and San Antonio loaded the bases before Brendan Durfee popped out to end the game. … McCoy’s homer was his fourth in Double-A and his 19th of the season. He reached base four times with a pair of walks Saturday and now sports a slash line of .389./.477/.528 in 42 plate appearances this month. He had a .575 OPS this year in El Paso in 83 plate appearances, but should get another opportunity in 2027. … Kai Roberts, 25, stole his 43rd base in 46 attempts, which places him third in the Texas League. The left-handed-hitting Roberts is also a plus center fielder defensively, but has struggled to make consistent contact at the plate with a .200/.296/.282 slash line this year. … University of San Diego product Jack Costello had a pair of hits tonight and has a batting average of .308 for the month. … Sunday will be the Missions’ final game of the season as they attempt to avoid being swept.
