2023 offseason

How does everyone feel about a Jake trade to Sox for Triston Casas 1B and Brandon Walter lhp.. sure they are unproven BUT with our lack of depth backfill in AAA ..Walter and Groome could battle for SP #6.. with the other providing depth at AAA.. Casas (top 1B spec in baseball) is ready for regular duty and with Tatis/Soto/Manny + a BAT in FA could be carried if he struggles or cam explode and be a ROY type in 2023.

Hate losing the best 2B in baseball but Crone is going to start to get expensive and if we can cover 2 of 26 spots with good/great specs at the expense of Jake shouldn't we do it? Look at Astros they did it with a rookie at SS...why can't we do it with a rookie at 1B..?

Interesting just focusing on the Casas - Cronenworth aspect.

Casas is ML ready (but still a rookie gamble) and is the #25 MLB prospect … so highly regarded. Boston could cover 1B with Hosmer / Dalbec. 6 years control … low cost.

Cronenworth is a proven NL All-Star but with only 3 years control in his late 20s and entering 3 arbitration years … moderate cost.

Might not be that much of a difference in trade value (depending on the evaluator).

For the Padres (don’t save much in Arb 1) … guess they go with Tatis at SS and Kim at 2B. Opens a greater need for LF and a non-1B second bat. As I recall Casas is not a good fielder … so there is that.

I guess if focusing on contending in 2023 … gambling on a one dimensional 1B rookie vs a proven 2B may not be the best strategy.

Not a chance for so many reasons

Trading a proven star for unproven prospects seems like a bad way to do business for a team with World Series aspirations.

Rizzo got a qualifying offer which pushes him down my list of 1B options.

Casas is a good defender

.197 .358 .408 .766 also had a cup of tea in the MLB in 2022 with 5 HRs in less than 80 ABs..

Brandon Walter

Older spec who seems to have figured it out just needs an opportunity..as a #6 SP he could eat some innings and deliver solid + results..good SO/BB rate

I dont know why but I am sensing a Jake Cronesworth trade this offseason..proj arb $4.2 in arb 1.. probably means $7 arb 2..and $12 arb 3.. or there abouts.. Merrill will be ready by arb 2 definetely by arb 3.. if he can be the center piece on a Kirk or like I proposed above a trade for a controllable stud 1B spec or player..I think AJP needs to explore those options.. also Marlins are looking for hitters ..maybe we can get one of their SP (not Alcantara obviously) for a Jake package

Seems like Tatis/Kim..pr Kim/Tatis can cover SS/2B and Rosario can serve as the utility IF giving us the best way to utilize Crone (trade) in such scenario while keeping Tatis on the dirt .. and putting our resources to better use SP/1B/ or/and C...

Yup we would surrender a 2nd and 4th rd pick in the draft.. not worth it when other options Still available

IF Cronenworth gets traded it is either after 2023 or 2024 when Merrill is presumed ready ... now at about $4MM in 2023 still a value.  Remember Kim will be a FA after 2024 ($8MM mutual option declined) a year before Cronenworth and is getting a higher salary now. So, maybe it should be Kim traded with the higher salary and shorter control and insert Tatis at SS which will give them a middle INF for two years and ready for Merrill.

Just don't see Boston dealing Casas given their 1B options are Hosmer / Dalbec ... they keep the big upside of MLB #25 prospect for 6 years at a low cost.
