Ok ..u brought me back stateside to AJP favorite Joey "fucking" Gallo... not going to lie...Gallo in LF is > Profar and is not even close..especially at 1/$6mil or cheaper

I would not be surprised by a Gallo signing. Big risk with the decline of the bat; but IF he rebounds, would be a great bargain signing.

Most of his shoulder issues were when swinging….plus he has had the surgery.

Still a better infield defensively than Machado/Kim/Crone/Hosmer or anyone we’ve had at 1b.

Tatis dislocated his shoulder once when swinging, once diving during base running and twice when diving for balls at SS. Tatis has loose joints and the surgery doesn't fix that. As for "still a better infield defensively", how do you figure? Tatis has always graded as a bad/terrible defensive SS. Machado, Kim and Crone were all GG worth this year at their current positions. Moving 2 of them to new positions to accommodate a bad defensive SS in Tatis cannot help but make the defense exponentially worse.

Except in 2020 (yes it wasn't a full season but he played 59 of 60 games) he led the NL in OAA.

His issue has always been trying to do too much.

His errors mostly come from making throws he shouldn't...and throwing it away allowing the runner to 2b.

I don't know how much,or even when, but he's not going to play that recklessly forever.

He is not a bad fielder...it's his decision making that's the issue...he thinks he can always throw the guy out.

I say still a better infield because the improvement of Cronenworth at 1b over Hosmer is more of an improvement than the loss is with adding Tatis at SS.

So Henry posted a link to a NY Post article, that has beat MLBTR to the punch with their estimated contract amounts and lengths for "their" 30 top FA of MLB. Here are some of the more mentioned names in our threads.

deGrom - 3 yrs/$125M - $41.67M AAV

Rodon - 5 yrs/$150M - $30M AAV

Nimmo - 7 yrs/$145M - $20.7M AAV

Senga - 5 yrs/ $65M - $13M AAV

Contreras - 4 yrs/ $88M - $22M AAV

Rizzo - 2 yrs/ $40M - $20M AAV

Benintendi - 4yrs/ $56M - $14M AAV

Profar - 4yrs/ $48M - $12M AAV

Bell - 3 yrs/ $51M - $17M AAV

Quintana - 2 yrs/ $25M - $12.5M AAV

Conforto - 1yr/ $14M.

You can read the whole article here,

Of these Senga and Benintendi look like the best choices for us.

I would imagine that in this scenario, our OF would consist of Benintendi, Grisham, and Soto. With Machado, Tatis, Kim, and Crone around the INF.

Senga and Benintendi would take $27M of the approximately $40M that SD might have for the 2023 offseason. Leaving $13M for at least one more SP, and trying to resign Martinez and Suarez. I guess Martinez could be the 5th starter. Dont know if $13M is enough for both, since Martinez is $6.375M and Suarez is $5.5M. Could Zach Davies be almost as effective as a SP as Martinez, for a lot less? And prioritize resigning Suarez?

I could live with the Benintendi / Senga signings.

Probably would prioritize Suarez over Martinez. Hader will not pitch every game and need a second "closer" in the mix ... Suarez has shown he can play at that level ... rather him than betting on someone to emerge from the shadows. Also, Martinez was not great as a SP (more a #5 type) that could be had (probably) for less than Martinez will demand.

At that point, probably just focus on some of the "prospects" to fill (Groome, Morejon ... Rosario, Campusano) at league minimum, then target some low-cost veterans for the bench ... maybe a Mazara type (remember Drury was a low-end sign by CINN). Expect the Padres to be signing a good number of non-roster veterans for AAA.

That should leave some room for mid-season adds, if needed, to cover injuries.

Kind of what I was thinking as well. He didnt really find himself until he went to the pen this season. His starts were kind of 50/50 at best, and definitely not past two trips of the line up.

So lets say that Tatis returns to SS, and Kim and Crone slide left to cover 2B and 1B respectively. Leaving us to find a LFer or RFer. What do we consider is more valuable hitting wise, OBP or more of a thumper to stretch the line up?

Is a Benintendi type and his OBP better for the SD line up. Or someone more like Pederson and his .521 SLG better for the SD line up?

IF SD leans more towards Tatis leading off, then I think Pederson. If SD wants Tatis in more of a power/RBI spot, then Benintendi.

Remember we need a DH too..so 2 Bats.. but Joc and Beni would be a great combo.. so would Joc/Drury (cheaper)..

I am hearing Suarez may want to close and could command 3/30..($10per) I don't see how we can afford that.. could pivot to Chafin (Tigers lefty) who BoMel loves as the 8th inning guy with Garcia

My preference would be Drury and Pederson. One IF, one OF. One RHH, one LHH. Both have power. Save a little more money for pitching. Drury could also be our backup 1B and really our primary IF backup overall.
