Trade news: The Seattle Mariners and Arizona Diamondbacks are in agreement on a trad that will send outfielder Kyle Lewis to Arizona and outfielder/catcher Cooper Hummel to Seattle, sources familiar with the situation tell ESPN. A 1-for-1 exchange.

I guess not ... at 27 with an injury plagued career of sub-par performance apparently not many takers. Hummel the guy going to SEA is not much to talk about at 27 with an equally sub-par career.
Sort of filler for filler ... both have options so expect them both in AAA.

Quote from MrPadre19 on November 17, 2022, 5:39 pmStill…his upside alone for a team with just 3 outfielders on their roster makes him worth a prospect in the 20’s.
Hummel wasn’t even in the D Backs top 30 for Gwynns sake.
I think I’d have given them Ryan Bergert for him…our #19
🙄

Quote from Jeremy Hill on November 17, 2022, 5:54 pmHummel has shown pretty serious on base skills in the minors, but it does seem like a light return. I do wonder if the general consensus on Lewis is that his knees are shot though. He was mostly limited to DH work last year. Kind of a weird trade. It probably increases the chances that the Dbacks move an outfielder.

I would love to get McCarthy out of AZ, is a LHH with some pop and speed. I am sure that we would get outbid for him by another team, especially since AZ is in our division.
A sneaky grab from AZ could be Seth Beer. He can play both corners in the OF, and 1B as well. His ML season was not great, but his MiL numbers are pretty good, and he is inexpensive with a lot of years of control left. With his lack of ML success and their glut of LHH OF types, he might be a reasonable exchange prospect wise, and a good bounce back candidate for SD.
I believe his one HR last season, was the game winner vs Darvish in the first series of the year. So he is worth at least one win!! 😉

I wanted Beer when he came out in Draft.. not sure Dbacks willing to move a 5-6 yr controlled bat who is going to hit a ton

Quote from Randy Manese on November 18, 2022, 9:02 amLooking at Padres players and their most successful place in the line-up over their careers, we have the following possible batting order: Tatis (1st), Machado (3rd), Soto (4th), Cronenworth (5th), Nola (7th), Kim (8th) and Grisham (9th). So we are essentially looking to fill the number 2 and number 6 holes in the line-up, unless we don't like the fact that we have two lh batters back to back.
Cronenworth's next best position in the line-up one his career has been 7th, which would allow you to slip in a decent RH bat in the 5th or 6th slot. Given what may be out there, the ideal scenario would be Abreu in the 5th slot and someone like Benintendi at #2. We could put Croney at #2 (which is his 3rd best spot in the line-up) but he's a decent RBI man, especially in the clutch so prefer him at either 5th or 7th. Interesting to see what over options are open to protect Soto in the clean-up spot but Abreu or even Yandy Diaz could be a good fit. If Campy show he can hit, he could move up to the 6th slot followed by Croney, Kim and Grisham.
Of course, Preller could just trade away Croney and Grisham and rework the entire bottom of the line-up so hold onto your hats for a very interesting off-season.
