2023 offseason
Quote from BoosterSD on November 18, 2022, 9:19 amQuote from Henry Silvestre on November 18, 2022, 8:59 amI wanted Beer when he came out in Draft.. not sure Dbacks willing to move a 5-6 yr controlled bat who is going to hit a ton
This was from a blurb on MLBTR, and AZ is facing a roster crunch, and has an abundance of the LHH OFers, and Christian Walker at 1B. So Beer, due to lack of performance, could just be the odd man out. So maybe with AZ selling low on Beer, he could be an interesting target for Preller.
But same as most things on here, and MLBTR, just speculation.

Quote from BoosterSD on November 18, 2022, 9:27 amQuote from Randy Manese on November 18, 2022, 9:02 amLooking at Padres players and their most successful place in the line-up over their careers, we have the following possible batting order: Tatis (1st), Machado (3rd), Soto (4th), Cronenworth (5th), Nola (7th), Kim (8th) and Grisham (9th). So we are essentially looking to fill the number 2 and number 6 holes in the line-up, unless we don't like the fact that we have two lh batters back to back.
From yesterday, I think I have gotten excited about spending a bunch of yen, and becoming The Vapors, and "Turning Japanese". Sign Senga and Yoshida, and trade for Diaz.
Then you go, Tatis (R), Yoshida (L), Machado (R), Soto (L), Diaz (R), Crone (L), Kim (R), Nola (R), Grisham (L).
That gives Tatis the ability to go all "Nando" on the base paths, Yoshida a high OBP and doubles guy to hit him in, followed by the power of Machado and Soto. Still have a great OBP guy behind Soto in Diaz, so if Soto didnt homer, that brings Crone up with multiple guys on, and hopefully some fastballs to feast on, then you take what you get from Kim, Nola, and Grisham before starting over again!!
Your rotation goes, Darvish, Musgrove, Snell, Senga, Martinez.
Like I said yesterday, sounds like a pennant winner to me!!
Stroke the checks Seidler, its just money and you cant take it with you!

Beer vs Dixon for DH or 1B.. would be a nice ST battle loser goes to AAA for Depth or to the Bench.. Beer has the upside down the line.. I like it..
Dbacks add 2 SP and they could be very dangerous..as is they are a nightmare to play against..even if we did dominate in 2022

Quote from Henry Silvestre on November 18, 2022, 10:05 amWhat does McCarthy cost us?..I like Fletcher too (unproven but likely costs less than McCarthy).. Beer would be my 3rd choice ..just because the 1st 2 can play CF

A lot!! Probably starts with Merrill, and then two more good pieces after that. Maybe Merrill or Zavala, Montesino, and Valenzuela.
He would be my preference as well, just think we get outbid by a team like MIA that wants a CFer as well.

Yeah hard pass...Merrill is about to climb to top #5 in all of baseball... I need a 4 WAR controlled MLB player to even go 1 for 1 .. hard pass..

Quote from Henry Silvestre on November 18, 2022, 10:37 amHe has already outplayed and outranked much older higher ranked MLB prospects ..while hanging with top 10 types in Arizona.. Merrill has all the makings of our best spec perhaps ever..

Oh Hell YES please!
The Padres met with Kodai Senga in San Diego yesterday, sources said. SD is one of many teams with interest in Senga, who could fill a remaining hole in the rotation. The righty is close with Yu Darvish, and played with Nick Martinez and Robert Suarez in Japan.

Well, if you look at that trade simulator, for a base, the only 3 MiL players of real value in the system are Merril, Lesko, and Zavala. And in that simulator, McCarthy is a 20 trade value, and Lesko and Zavala are a combines 22.8. Merrill is a 30, so Merrill would be an overpay on SDs part.
Would you do Lesko and Zavala for McCarthy?
BTW, McCarthy was a 2.4 WAR player last season, and it was really his first season and is controlled through 2028, and does not even reach arbitration until 2025. You have to give to get.

Not a chance that gets McCarthy out of AZ ... AZ wishes to start contending now and is building a young team NOW ... McCarthy is league minimum with 5 more years control and had a plus season. Give that up for long term prospects that may (or may not) turn into quality ML players should get their GM fired.
