Trade ideas

Mazara wouldn’t be an exciting addition, but he is an intriguing change of scenery candidate. He’s only 24, was considered a top prospect due to his bat and strength. That said, I wouldn’t deal Joey for him. Joey is definitely undervalued by many Padres fans. I know the stuff isn’t eye popping, but Joey is so smart and knows how to keep hitters off balance.  I’m with you Mr. P on the preference to just attach a prospect to Lauer over dealing Joey.

IF the Padres will be making a legit pursuit of Cole / Strasburg at at least $30MM/year AND want to upgrade the OF with let’s say Dickerson and Akiyama ... another $10MM or so, the should the Padres be more aggressive in deleting some of their above minimum contracts to ensure the flexibility to cover those FA deals?

Myers to be sure. So how much in trade assets would it take to get some team to take Myers (and his full contract)? We may be over Myers but his is still likely a 1 WAR player so not without some value to the buyer. Preller is not going to use his elite prospect core but he does have a lot of next level ML/MiL talent to replenish some team’s system with ML potential ... basically they are buying prospects. Note: based on the return being a PTNL type ... no talent.

If that could be achieved first .... then more flexibility on both the FA signings and the need to deal Renfroe or Hedges or Margot or Garcia to shave more off the payroll.

Not sure what they would have to add to Kinsler for someone to take his contract ... same idea of the return being a PTNL level. So who wants to buy one of the Padres prospects worth about $4MM?

Clean the house before you bring in the new furniture ... if you can.

The Orioles to me are a perfect candidate to take Myers.

With any rebound at all he is a + major league player and they only have a few.

Plus if they took Myers they could also gain some good prospects.....the level of depending on how much $ they absorb.

Plus they have the $ and may actually “need” to add Myers cost to keep MLB off of their case.

So even if they don’t trade Mancini or Givens they may take Myers + prospects off our hands.

Something like Myers/Bolanos/Arias for Villar......with some $ involved.

From some comments I’ve seen I don’t believe Urias will be our opening day 2b.

Villar is under contract for 2020, and then a FA for the 2021 season. Myers is owed $67.5M and Villar is owed $10.4M, leaving a gap of $58.1M. Lets say that another GM will agree that Myers is a $10M a year player, that leaves about $9.4M per year that he is over paid. So does Bolanos and Arias equal $27M? Might have to sweeten the prospect pot to get BAL to do that. Maybe adding Nix and Lawson?

Of course....sweeten it any way necessary.

Keep in mind I also said the prospects in return would depend on the “$ they absorbed”.

I was just making an example but inferring that Baltimore,in their current situation, may be a good candidate to take Myers.

Make the money make sense and he is at least a legitimate major league player and with taking him on they can also improve their farm system.

I am actually in the Camp of keeping Myers unless we get a good return.

I still have some confidence he will return to a 25/25 player.

Im also OK with trading him but ‘not’ just to rid us of him.

If we can move him along with some $ and/or prospects and get a guy like Mancini.....or Benintendi.....fine.

But just trading him to lose his contract to me is no bueno.

You are drinking the good stuff today, arent you!! 😁😂😉

I am.....but I had this feeling before I started.😉

So a story about the Astros possibly making some deals to lower payroll have surfaced.

Mentioned George Springer?

Also mentioned they need a Catcher and a Starter(to replace Cole).

But Springer is just a one year rental but could he be had for a deal surrounding Hedges and Lucchesi?

Obviously would have to include more but should we consider a move like this ala the Betts idea?

Or should we stay away from any one year rental ideas?

With one year rentals, we should be Nancy Reagan and "Just say No". Unless we are leading the NL West just before the trade deadline.
