Agree .... they were making high quality contact but either right at a defender or just shy of the wall or an AZ defender was making an outstanding defensive play ... multiple plays by Peralta, Jones, Marte, and Ahmed likely blunted a lot of scoring for the Padres.
It is early but maybe Johnny Washington's influence is working and when they get to a less defensive gifted team (or just get some luck) to offense will look better.
Side note: heard a stat that even though Reyes so far has generated zero offense he has the highest average exit velocity this season ... that has got to be a lot of at em balls!

We play at home Wednesday......travel Wednesday night to St Louis and play Thursday.....”then” get
an off day on Friday?
Why isn’t Thursday the typical ‘travel day” then a three game series over the weekend?
Seems a little tough on our boys.
Building in the day off so if their home opener gets rained out, they can still do the whole hoopla the next day.
Every now and then I get one right!

If he knows he is in the line up and not this one day in then one day out...he is going to get you 25-30 HR a year and hit .260 +
Andy Green has done more to screw this guy up than anyone and if Renfro does get traded to a team that actually just pencils him in and gets him innings and AB's he is going to do a lot of damage to opposing teams including the Padres if he is dealt to a National League team
Renfro has a OPS of 1.091 with a .273 BA....Reyes has a BA of .71 and a OPS of .206
I know it's early but.....
I completely agree Renfroe has received a Bochy esque rookie treatment from Green and has been completely mismanaged for a team that was expected to lose 180 games the last couple years. It really shouldn't be Renfroe vs Reyes though. It should be framed as Myers/Renfroe/Reyes and which pair provides the team the most flexibility and production going forward. If Renfroe or Reyes can provide enough trade value to bring back an undervalued contract equivalent to Myers overage then you have to consider moving them. If they can't you hope Myers has some takers at the deadline. Right now I see them as equally productive at the plate with Myers edging out Renfroe defensively with Reyes trailing far behind.
Myers is a better player in the field, on the bases and at the plate than Renfroe. He is a better player in the field and on the bases and not worse at the plate than Reyes.
Therefore, when the conversation turns to Myers/Renfroe/Reyes, it really comes down to Renfroe/Reyes.

That was the point I was trying to make and have no idea why somebody put Meyers into the equation and the numbers I put up were Renfro / Reyes only......personally I give the edge to Renfro as he would be starting on at least 1/2 to 2/3 of the teams in MLB... but Andy Green has no vision as to what could be but will at some point when Renfro gets traded and blossoms....Mark my words
JMHO
BTW- Renfro's defense today was huge....Reyes doesn't get to either one of those inning killers

Good for him. Roster construction has other factors like paying someone 20m versus league minimum for nominally better performance at the plate that you have to take into account.
If you make the conversation just Renfroe/Reyes, you're doing so without consideration to a core part of the game.

Quote from MrPadre19 on April 4, 2019, 4:16 amOr you do so because you’re Andy Green and your only job is to put the best players on the field and win games.
He hasn’t anything to do with what these guys are paid.....he can only play the guys he’s given in order to win “regardless” of what they’re paid.
I believe this discussion was about “who to play”.....not “who to keep or trade away”.

I agree , I've all ways heard how bad Renfro was in the OF. He has made a few nice catches and his arm has been strong and accurate. We need the DH for Reyes and to control the starters innings. We won't need to PH for starters or relievers and can really choose when to pull them. If Stammen or any others are pitching good then we don't need to pull a double switch and can use that player later when needed.

Quote from fenn68 on April 4, 2019, 9:31 amI will be interesting to see the Padres philosophy on the value of developing a "prospect" via playing time so that prospect can reach max potential vs. the analytical view of playing time doled out by match-up which can turn into a self-fulling philosophy with prospects by not fully working the areas for improvement. This in the context of trying to win in the short and long term.
This year with Renfroe - Margot - Reyes - Cordero and add Naylor next season has to be a challenge. Obviously they want to keep the best ... but not that easy to see out of this group. So are they better off making their expect call and cull out the second tier and either send them to the minors or just deal them and let the better ones just play and develop? Gets more complicated when Jankowski returns. A hitter or fielder needs reps and learn from his failures ... not getting that opportunity in the mix and match approach.
Different for longer term veterans who have "proved" what they can and cannot do in the ML but for developing prospects?
Padres have some decent talent evaluators ... just make a call and go for it.
