Was the Tatis out at home call reviewed? Looks like he slid around the tag?

No, they decided not too.

Amazingly he may have been safe but it was so close that they felt it wouldn’t have been overturned.

Thanks David.

Tatis just seems to have an innate ability that 99% of the other players don't have. Whether it's from being around his dad/ MLB since he was small or just fortunate, the kid just knows how to play.

Yeah it was just bad luck that the ball bounced directly back to the Catcher.

Good chance that it would and if you played there 80 times a year maybe he would have gone part way and waited.

But 99% of visitors would take off for home on that wild pitch and 99% of those would be out dead to rights.

Tatis is one of the 1% that made it close and as I said......he may have been safe but was too close to be overturned.

Some stats that may impact line-ups going forward and potential trades (if the Padres fall out of contention) ... looking at the past 30 days:

1. Kinsler (72 AB) ... 306/342/458 (800) ... 2B is not normally a big trade target (and usually a lot of options available) but that stat line plus Kinsler's veteran status / team player image might just put him at the top of the list. Would not get much in talent in return (low A ball type) but might be able to clear some 2020 payroll. Two contenders are in need of 2B (and RHH 2B) are Texas and Cleveland.

2. Hedges (54 AB) ... 167/211/222 (433) VS. Mejia (23 AB) ... 304/385/609 (993). Looking as though the catching slot is now Mejia's to lose and he should get the bulk of starts going forward. Hedges has been so bad offensively, he has no trade value and provides more value to the Padres as insurance / back-up.

3. Myers (71 AB) ... 197/313/296 (609) VS Margot (43 AB) ... 256/373/395 (768). Same story line as with catcher with CF Margot's to lose with him currently providing better offense and defense than Myers. Myers performance is alarming bad even for a streaky hitter and clearly sits behind Margot / Renfroe / Reyes in the OF. Padres need for him to get ABs to work his way back to being an "average" but that may come as the 4th OF and spot 1B / PH. Performance / contract make him un-tradeable ... Padres just need to nurse his exposure to see IF he can at least build some value ... better value proposition at this point than just eating his contact or making a deal for another bad contract (probably would take multiple bad contracts that equal Myers' ... no real upside).

Did see a note somewhere that with the resurgence of Kinsler, Machado, Hosmer, et. al plus the inserting of Mejia and Margot the Padres have come off the bottom offensively in the NL into the top 5 in June. Source of optimism.

I think the one small value that Myers has at this point is position flexibility. He can play all 3 OF spots, 1B, and in a pinch 3B. Obviously LF being his best and most productive spot. And he does have some speed, with 9 stolen bases and a 75% success rate.

Possible spots for Myers. Not knowing the farm system; however, I believe that most of PIT OF is a free agent at the end of this season or next. SF needs OF help, and could look at taking Samardja back in trade. SEA is always willing to get creative, and would like to move Gordon and Leake.

Strange thought. I know Margot is in a hot streak, but I dont think that will continue. And Myers is not much better offensively or defensively in CF. Would there really be much of a drop off offensively if they were to ship out both Myers and Margot and use Gettys. His defense is probably the best of the 3, and he has more power than Margot and more speed than Myers. Pairing Gettys with Jank(when healthy) could give SD a nice platoon situation.

Ah, always that glimmer of hope with Gettys ... but still a below average offensive player in the PCL so not seeing any cause to bet on him as a ML option ... for now OK with Margot.

As for Myers, even with better performance, he is owed (cash) about $62.5MM which is not a chunk any team will take .. Padres would have to eat a major portion for any team to have interest and even then need to add some top prospects.

Leake / Gordon has come up before but not seeing this from Seattle's point of view since they owe that pair about $52MM while Myers is at $62.5 (higher cost / less productive). More importantly, a good chance they could deal each of them to other teams and actually save payroll money even if they ate some. Leake is of course an issue since he has full no trade and likely would require the buying team to exercise the $18MM option for 2021 taking his cost to around $45MM and the combo cost to about equal to Myers. So maybe a push for SD. Seattle will be exploring more beneficial options ... which may be not trading for Myers and standing pat.

Sort of the same issue with SF and Samardzija who is only owed $19MM next season and a FA .... SF could do better dealing him for stronger assets without taking on the long term liability of Myers.

Pitt ... well if anything they are going to reduce payroll ... so not a player.

I am afraid the Padres are stuck with Myers for a few more years ... unless he returns to his "average" performance and while the owed salary liability diminishes to a point that the Padres will not have to eat that much. Actually, since I can wish for better options ... at this point it is just wishing and not backed by sustained performance by the alternatives ... at least not 5 alternatives ... so why focus on taking a major hit by moving him. If Margot gets injured (or again tanks), not going to rely on Jankowski to be anything more than his past (poor overall offense) or ???? in CF ... Myers has a role.

BEFORE Margot's "mini rebound" I had this exact thought re: Gettys.... IF it's a "strict" LH/RH platoon, would it really be "worse" to have a 35-40 Hit/OBP tool CF in Gettys who has MUCH superior Arm & Power to Margot holding down that platoon as the 5th OF?   PLUS late game defensive sub in RF with arm.... if Margot has an OBP South of .300 (Career: .299 >1,200 PA) it's hard to argue.  But Gettys MLB offense as a regular looks like it would be in line with Austin Hedges (.200/.250) with a 35-40% K rate.

The one caveat is I'd like to see Margot in that platoon first this year with Jankowski or Cordero... small sample but he's been good vs LHP this year.

Lauer with 50 pitches through 2 innings.

Still, he gives up a leadoff double and nothing else leaves the infield. Cards score 1.

Is anyone watching? How'd they score that run? Gamecast shows Hosmer doing something....

Now Gamecast showing NO runs!

Have a day off and Hedges starts? Pads must not think much of Mejia.
