Regular Season Discussion
Quote from Booster SD on June 11, 2018, 7:03 amThe only real solace that I am taking from this season, is hoping that the younger players can make some strides in consistency and starting upping their performance. And that SD is starting to win series that they should win against teams like CIN and MIA. With the add of some better pitching and increase of performance of position players, we could take another step next year and start wining series against lower echelon playoff caliber teams, and maybe take a stab at the WC in 2019, and hopefully a real division run in 2020.

I don't think anyone projected that, certainly hoped for it though. The draft pools have too much disparity not to.

Quote from MrPadre19 on June 12, 2018, 6:29 pmI find it amazing that Pirela has yet to hit a HR this season.
He had “23” last year between SD and EP.
”Twenty three”!
And he’s making solid consistent hard contact.
Bizarre.

Vegas had the Padres win total between 68 and 69.5.....So they were banking on 90+ losses.

Quote from LynchMob on June 13, 2018, 10:18 pmSan Diego has won 11 of 15 games, including five of its last seven. It's the first time the Padres have won five consecutive series since 2010.

It really and truly was bizarre. He's been a very good hitter all season with, as you said, plenty of hard contact.
Great to see him finally get his first of the season last night!

Quote from MrPadre19 on June 17, 2018, 7:12 amVery strange scheduling this season.
We’re nearing the 1/2 way mark and we’ve only played Arizona “three” times!
While we’ve played Atlanta seven.
I guess we will know better where we stand after we get back into the Division for a while.

Quote from MrPadre19 on June 25, 2018, 11:53 amI will eat some Crow on Eric Lauer.
I am very surprised he has put together 5 good starts in a row.
I truly didn't think he had it in him.
Let's hope he keeps it up and becomes a solid member of next years rotation.

Quote from fenn68 on June 26, 2018, 8:34 am81 games in ... the half way point. Team is about as expected with poor SP ... good RP ... poor offense and a 92 loss season. Some random observations:
1. RP has been as good as advertised ... sitting at 4th best WAR ... BUT they are also #3 in innings pitched and that has a real chance to burn out of the key arms in the second half (maybe we have seen a bit in the past couple of days). Maybe worse, that regression seems to be appearing in both Hand and Stammen ... two of their better trade chips. Has overwork for short run gain turned into a longer term loss to the organization?
2. Offense is bad ... but amazingly not the worst in MLB. They sit (based on WAR) at 28th for the season and in the past 30 days have settled at 26th ... hard to believe 4 worse teams!
3. Get Renfroe out of the OF .... looking worse than I had recalled (routes / range) and his tepid offense is not making up for that. Find a trade partner.
4. Galvis ... not sure what to do with him (FA after the season). Not an offensive factor except for some limited spurts ... defensively lacks range but is as sure handed as they come (does not make errors) and grades out quite high overall in defense. Unless Tatis is ready to jump to the ML in 2019 (and if they can get some offense out of other positions) may need to consider an extension.
5. Hedges .... Padres better look for more catching help since I can see nothing in Hedges ABs that suggest he will ever hit .200 ... on a team needing offense his lack of offense outweighs in defense.

Quote from MrPadre19 on June 26, 2018, 10:22 amSo I see Asuaje playing 3B down in AAA.
Do we assume he may be our 3B next season if it isn't CV or Spangy?
There is not much available in Free agency....doubt we go after Donaldson.
So that leaves trades or what we already have in house.
