This team will fade and fade hard soon.....I think we all understand that.
I just hate the fact that we will probably have a long bad summer but still end up drafting in the teens next year.
Although it is good to know that there are at least 7-8 worse teams right now.
It gives us hope for once the pitching arrives I think.
Of all the supposed pitching talent in our system, and there sure seems to be A LOT of it, how many appear to be the dominant 1 starter( see Kershaw, Sherzer ) types? And how many appear to be 2 or 3 types?

Quote from Ryan Payne on June 7, 2018, 3:31 pmKershaw's days of being a "1" are over. There are VERY few "1's" throughout baseball. Scherzer is an obvious standout, but this kind of rhetoric always seems to get overblown. There are a handful (or less) #1 candidates throughout the entirety of baseball.

Quote from WindsorUK on June 7, 2018, 11:34 pmStill, are there quite a few guys in our system that could be top of the rotation guys?
I'm not suggesting a Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz trio but it would be nice to have a solid rotation 1 through 5.
Guys like Lamet, Lucchesi appear to be quality guys- should we expect the same from Gore,Quantril, Morejon, Paddock, Baez, etc?

Quote from MrPadre19 on June 8, 2018, 7:49 amI'd defer this question to the Madfriars guys....but my 2 cents worth would be to agree that I wouldn't say any of our
prospects are surefire #1 guys.
That's just too hard to predict or assume.Just look at Corey Kluber for an example.
But as far as "top of the rotation" guys I'd say Gore,Paddack,Baez and Espinoza are our best bets to be solid #1-2 guys.
How fantastic would it be if in a couple years we have a full rotation with these guys?
The chances of "not" having a better than average rotation with this list of guys is pretty slim.
Not to mention we still have guys outside our top 10-15 that would be at the top of most teams prospects lists.....Logan Allen,Nix,Lawson,Avila,Lauer who could all still become top of rotation guys....and now there's the addition of Meadows.
It's absolutely crazy how deep we are in arms in the system. So many are overshadowed by the top guys.

Quote from Ryan Payne on June 8, 2018, 8:14 amI think Gore is the only one who has a #1 ceiling. But again, you can build a rotation of 2's and 3's and be just as effective.

Quote from fenn68 on June 11, 2018, 4:48 amPadres are not now a contender ... actually not a good team but even with the injuries to expected key pieces in Lamet, Myers, and Hedges ... they have the 19th best winning percentage in MLB (tied with Detroit) ... nothing to get excited about but a noteworthy improvement over sitting at 24th.
I know this is a bit of cherry picking but IF Lamet stayed healthy and pitches as he did last season ... keeping some combo of Mitchell et. al. out of the 5th rotation spot ... padres could have achieved a better position maybe even nearing mid-point.
Certainly a step ahead of the doom and gloom of projected 100 losses this season and what some label as the potential worst SP staff in MLB history. Then again the season is just over 40% complete ... soooooooo!
