Cubs want some MLB level talent. Don't think Davies alone fills that need.
Maybe Cronenworth on the move?

Doesn’t sound as though Cronenworth is in the deal.
Davies and apparently Owen Cassie (2020 draft pick OF) and Preciado (very young international signing) and two other prospects NOT among the Padres top 5.
Are we sure Morejon is in the deal?

Quote from Ben Davey on December 28, 2020, 6:29 pmLooks like this is the haul for Yu and Ceratini
Davies, Caisse, Preciado, Mena and Santana.
Padres trade away both of their top 2018 J2 signings (Preciado and Mena)
Will the Padres even have a full roster for A Ball 🙂 But GREAT deal considering we didnt give up any top prospect or young pitcher

Quote from MrPadre19 on December 28, 2020, 6:31 pmOne year of Davies and four guys who are all at least three years away?
I’ll take that!

Quote from MrPadre19 on December 28, 2020, 6:41 pmThe only negative for me(and it’s minor) is I was looking forward to having Davies pitching in the middle of this rotation with all these flame throwers!
Might have really messed with opposing hitters.

Quote from jcp2400 on December 28, 2020, 6:58 pmPadres still have:
Best pitching prospect in baseball
2 more top 100 LHP prospects
consensus top 50 catching prospect
consensus top 50 shortstop prospect
And others.
The demise of the farm system has been greatly exaggerated

Quote from MrPadre19 on December 28, 2020, 7:01 pmSo we got 8 seasons of Clevinger,Snell and Darvish and only traded ONE top 100 prospect!

Quote from BoosterSD on December 28, 2020, 7:02 pmWhile it still is a hit to our farm system, it is much lower than I expected for this caliber pitcher. Morejon and Campusano, both still with the team. I know its 4 prospects, and a lot of money for a pitcher in his mid 30s, but still have to say, Well Done AJ, well done.

Plus we keep Myers and Cronenworth!

Quote from fenn68 on December 28, 2020, 7:04 pmI would have NEVER been able to guess this deal parts given all the rumors (misleading as they were). I guess it is a still bit unclear as to where the Cubs give the Padres some offset money for the future years.
Morejon stays .... and in the short run that is just more depth to cover any injury issues. Padres hold on to Gore, Morejon, Weathers, Lawson, and Baez and only one is needed in 2021 for the back end of the staff.
Nice prospects but none have been in full season so maybe 4-6 years out IF the develop. Good gamble for a setting up a 3 year run 2021-23. Also, holding on to Abrams, Campusano, Marcano, Head, Hassell still creates good system prospect for the nearer future.
It is all good.
Side: with 3 years control of Darvish, Snell, Lamet ... 4 years of Paddack .... and Gore, Morejon, Weathers, Lawson, Baez all ML ready early in that window .... Preller is stocked with an abundance of major trade chips (assuming all remain healthy and productive) if the Padres need to bolster the OF/DH with the potential departures of Pham and Myers.
