Yes at 25 "OLD FOR THIS LEAGUE" but he basically missed 2016 and 2017 due to TJ surgery. Pre-injury he was very effective as a RP (2015 - early 2016) in A ball. Last year he returned to LE has again was strong in relief and has been very effective this season out of the pen and this start was more out of necessity than a conversion I would guess.
Not sure about his "stuff" but as a RP who will be Rule 5 eligible (I believe) ... time to push him up to AA to see if he has some real upside. Do think the Padres will have some RP upgrades to consider for 2020-21.
15 K's is eye opening regardless of age/level! Agree Ashbeck deserves a promotion, but Elsinore is really strapped for SP's with 4 projected/actual out all/most of year so far: Espinoza, Osvaldo Hernandez, Mason Thompson who was talk of Spring Training, and Thomas Cosgrove. Now with Gore going up to AA, HAVE to get 1 SP from Fort Wayne, but really just need some guys to get healthy to allow others to advance.
With Logan Allen's debut today, for the first time since I can remember, Pads are heading into 2nd 1/2 with really no one on the Farm that is a "Lock" to be added to 40-man in offseason: I'm assuming none of the 2016 Intl class is exposed to Rule 5 b/c this is their 3rd year PLAYING pro ball. Not sure about 2015 Intl signees: Andres Munoz, Esteury Ruiz, and Henry Henry. They didn't start playing till 2016, so 4th year, but all were < 18 when started playing. Munoz would be a "lock".
The highest ranked prospect who will be exposed to R5 is #19 consensus Buddy Reed... far from a lock. But Pads do have a # of interesting RP prospects who are R5 eligible including: Ashbeck, Trevor Megill, and Evan Miller. Also acquired in Trade: Jean Cosme & injured again Hansel Rodriguez. But all these guys are behind Andres Munoz even if he's not "required" to be protected.

Quote from fenn68 on June 18, 2019, 10:43 amMLBTradeRumors "Depth Charts" has Munoz, E.Ruiz, and Henry all Rule 5 eligible. Guessing Munoz and Ruiz are good bets to be added to the 40 man. Also, bet Bolanos gets added (just promoted to AA and too much upside to risk). After that a bit if "we will see".
Reed, Ona, E.Rosario as position players are not yet compelling but maybe Reed if he has a strong second half.
Pitchers are all marginal and include: Schlotens; E.Ramirez; Bednar; Bacher; Valdez; and some others that already went through Rule 5 last year. Sort of depends on the development folks assessing upside and risk.

Doesn't seem like too many AZL kids go 5 innings, let along 5 shutout innings ... who is Laurbert Arias? He's only 18 🙂

Not even the weirdest part of the statline 25P 25S, the Padres in total threw 1 ball that game.

Quote from fenn68 on June 20, 2019, 11:41 amIs Owen Miller's performance beginning to get into the Padres' thinking about his upside and the potential strategies surrounding Kinsler and Urias?
Miller (still just 22 all season) was just drafted last year (3rd round) got place what seemed aggressively in AA to start 2019. Result (while playing SS/2B) is a 322/378/454 slash line .... in the past 10 games hitting .486, so the league is not figuring him out. That is a pretty high level for someone just drafted.
Kinsler is under contract for 2020 and Urias has been the hot prospect. Kinsler is performing at the ML level while Urias has a lot to prove at the ML level. Does the performance of Miller make it "easier" to deal Kinsler or Urias if anyone wants them in a deal? Could Miller step in in 2020 as the back-up middle INF .... if he is not the starting 2B (not out of the question if he can hit).

Quote from Cptjack on June 20, 2019, 12:07 pmTrading Kinsler became a necessity once our BP prospects failed one after another. If Preller can flip him for another Ty Buttrey then we have to do it.
