Quote from fenn68 on April 3, 2019, 4:16 pmOK, tomorrow the REAL start of the baseball season as the four full season affiliates open up (weather permitting).
SP per MiLB.com:
El Paso: Keel
Amarillo: Morejon
Lake Elsinore: Cosgrove
Fort Wayne: Weathers
Keeping with the Padres theme ... all LHP I think. Cosgrove is the only one I did not expect in a starting role in LE.

Quote from MrPadre19 on April 3, 2019, 5:14 pm4 more years for Edwards?
Based on Prellers’ track record I doubt it.
“If” He keeps producing as he has I can’t imagine he wouldn’t be up before then?
I guess it depends on many things....including our need and at what position.

Who would have thought that just a couple years ago?
Not just Miller but "especially" Xavier Edwards.I think this kid is the real deal and hope we don't end up trading him away because he's blocked.Miller may end up an ideal super utility/PH type....but Edwards I believe will need to play everyday.
Maybe he could move to CF?
I realize alot can happen in the time between now and when Edwards is ML ready....I'm just thinking ahead.
Since neither of those guys is a shortstop, you needn't worry too much about either. Arias, Lopez, and to a lesser degree, Tucupita are the guys to watch as potential long-term shortstops. Edwards will get most of his work at 2B this year. Miller will work on positional flexibility, especially since they are somehow willing to try moving Potts around the infield to open the year.

Appears to be a small guy who can take a walk.....
Should be a good fit for Amarillo ... switch hitter who can play all the OF slots. Probably not a ML prospect but good for making the AA team better. Already 24 (today).
He won't join a club just yet. He'll head to the complex to join fellow former Toronto farmhand Connor Panas and be ready to help when/where needed.

The other thing has to be the de-emphasis of range through shift utilization as was alluded to earlier.

I would expect that now ... since the Padres have moved to having some stability in their top ML players ... we will see them even more moving MiL talent around to different positions to see if their ceilings can be reached for the Padres ... remember they can always return the player to his "natural" position if needed.
With likely Machado, Tatis, and Hosmer good bets to remain where they play ... and a strong sense that Hedges / Mejia will be hard to dislodge near term need to get the top talent into positions of need (or at least versatile).
Last year Naylor to LF ... this year Potts ... plus they always have flexed middle INF around in the lower levels but may start pushing that up to higher levels more frequently.
If they hit ... they play .... somewhere.

David, with the Minors seasons starting today, has the team announced what players are headed to EST vs any cuts?
Also, other than these known names: Baez, Espinoza, O. Hernandez, H. Rodriguez, J. Guerrero, A. Cordoba, & J. Barley... any other Minors players injured/rehabbing heading into start of season?

Weathers super impressive pounding the strikezone. Lots of weak contact singles.

If I’m not mistaken that’s a career high.......what’s up with that?

He's healthy. That's what they'll expect him to do while he's cruising.
