the epitome of a "Mr.P" kind of baseball player.

I don't know what that means?  Who is "Mr. P" and what is a Mr. P kind of baseball player?

Mr. P is David Nevin, his old screen name from the old site was Mr. Padre 19 and many of us shortened it to Mr. P. And the kind of player he likes is speedy, gap power guys who play great defense that can get on base via a walk or single and steal 2nd if they dont hit a double.

Thanks.....couldn't be more accurate!

I keep forgetting that MrPadre19 isn't displayed for all to see.

Sorry for being so cryptive.

Or should we just call you GHOF? 🙂

You guys can call me anything you like....I’m pretty easy.

But Mr.P is best I think.

I certainly don't think it will make us contenders but I'm super excited for next season with guys like Mejia,Urias,Tatis,Logan Allen and the return of Franchy to be added to what we already have.

Should we expect Allen to get a legitimate shot at the rotation(he's still just 21) in the Spring or would you expect him to definitely start in AAA?

I realize Tatis will not be on the opening day roster btw.

I'm starting to think Guerra will be the opening day SS and hold it down until FTJ is ready.

Unless Galvis really wants to stay enough to take a short term reasonable deal.....

Anyone else?

Also....anyone think we add France to the 40 man and give him a shot or no?

re: Allen ... he'll get a legit shot ... but I suspect he'll start at AAA

re: France ... no ... he needs to have a monster AAA season before he gets a shot

re: Guerra ... I'm with ya thinking that Guerra can be O/D SS ... that seems like worst case scenario ... and I'm OK with it

Setting up for some interesting prospects to showcase in 2019. Guess they do not protect France ... gamble a guy who was a AA 3B for most of the year would not get selected (or kept).

ST for SP should be a battle assuming some of the current crop are not dealt. Allen will not be on the 40 man so a bit of a disadvantage. Plus Padres may want to give some more time to sort through the others ... 2019 is still a transition year. In the mix:

LHP: Richard, Erlin, Strahm, Lauer

RHP: Nix, Kennedy, Lamet, Perdomo, Lockett, Paddack, Quantrill, Mitchell

Yep, easy to eliminate (in our minds) but getting 5 out of those 12 to start 2019 make sense for final evaluations. Side benefit is holding on to that “extra” year on Allen if the call-up is lagged a month or so.

I think you forgot Lucchesi.    I really hope they give Strahm a shot, he could really be a good starter after he builds up his innings

Kyle Glaser at BA looks at the record number of teams that aren't even trying this year and points out --

But not all rebuilds work. And for those attempting, the landscape now is much different than it was for the Cubs and Astros.

When the Cubs and Astros both began their selloffs, there were no hard bonus slots in the draft or hard caps on international signings as there are now.

Teams weren’t limited by hard slot amounts in the drafts preceding the 2012 Collective Bargaining Agreement, and from 2009-2011 the Astros were able to draft and go over slot to sign a vast collection of talent, including George SpringerDallas KeuchelMike FoltynewiczVince Velasquez, Delino DeShields, Kikè Hernandez and Nick Tropeano.

Under an international system where teams could spend an unlimited amount of money one year in exchange for restrictions in future years, the Cubs spent tens of millions in the first part of the decade to sign Jorge SolerEloy JimenezGleyber Torres and Jeimer Candelario, among others. The Astros did the same to sign Jorge GuzmanAlbert AbreuFranklin PerezMichael Feliz and Teoscar Hernandez, who would all be used in key trades.

Teams are no longer able to replicate those splurges. The 2012 CBA put hard caps on draft bonuses, and the 2016 CBA placed strict limits on teams’ international spending. Teams are trying to emulate the Cubs and Astros, without the same tools for a rebound available to them.

Good story LynchMob.

Thanks for sharing.

Tha's why it's so important for the FO to make the right moves( i.e. keep the Cory Kluber types, and trade away the seemingly endless string of AAAA players we've had over the years)

In AJ we trust!

I realize the jump from A ball to AA is probably the biggest a prospect has to deal with but something has to be wrong with Buddy Reed.

Either physically, mentally or in his approach.

Anyone have any ideas?

Also....Travis Radke has been really good this year but he has also been yanked all over inside the system.

Is this because of how the Org. feels about “him” or just a coincidence due to circumstance?

Does he start next year in AA or AAA?

Seems like the org is fading at the finish (except for El Paso, of course ... and if they do well in the postseason, it will feel great).

The conventional wisdom seems to be that our minor league teams are young-for-the-league, and therefore not likely/expected to win ... OK ... I can/do buy that.

Overall, the year has been great ... our march into the 2020s seems on track!
