Quote from LynchMob on April 10, 2025, 10:18 pmFrom yesterday's DFR ...
On the mound, Ryan Bergert had a mixed showing on Friday. On the bright side, the righty generated 16 swing-and-misses, including a 56% whiff rate on his slider. His spin rate on all his pitches was up compared to his last start, when he dominated. The difference was that when the Aviators did make contact, they sent it a long way. That included a monster 455-foot blast by top prospect Nick Kurtz in the third inning. It was the longest home run hit in minor league baseball Wednesday. Bergert topped out at 94.7 mph on his fastball and averaged 93.

Quote from Stergios on April 11, 2025, 10:33 amAny theory as to why they were able to hit it so much further? Was he doing something that could be fixed?

Kurtz was the 4th overall pick last year.

Perlaza now hitting .383 with OPS = 1.072 #LIKE

A LHP ... so yes but probably not with great impact.
Not a hard thrower but with a decent array of pitches and a funky delivery as I recall. Starter in the minors but would not be surprised to see an attempt at some point to see him as a RP ... Padres could use some depth at LHRP with Morejon a FA after 2026, Matsui able to opt out after 2026, and Peralta able to opt out after every season.

Quote from fenn68 on April 14, 2025, 3:14 amKeeping an eye on Romeo Sanabria ... 22, LHH 1B/DH in AA ... who continues to hit.
Not the most loved prospect ... 18th round pick (2022) out of a JC who was immediately converted from C to 1B. Just hit at every level. More contact vs power ... sort of fits the current Padres' style.
Past commentary suggested he would struggle as he move to the upper minor league levels ... so far have not see that.
Can Sanabria be a legit ML 1B/DH or is he this year's Graham Pauley?

Quote from Randy Manese on April 14, 2025, 11:03 amWas down in San Antonio to watch the Missions and Wolf was the pitcher. Probably had his best game of the year (late April) before he was brought up and then traded. Lot os deception from the left side/hides the ball very well. Velocity not great but if can maintain location and add to his repertoire has a chance at a career like Hart. Agree that his future may be the LHP in non-high leverage situations in the bullpen, certainly more like Peralta than Morejon. I still like Omar Cruz as a better candidate, especially after he seems to have add more velocity to pair with his off the table change-up.
I think Sanabria is the real deal. Pauley was a much more advanced hitter coming out of college and could still develop as a platoon piece. Sanabria has much better bat to ball skills/eye at the plate. Struggled last year at SA (which is a tough place to hit) at the end of the year, but from what I've seen on MiLB.tv, having a much better approach and a nice compact swing. Probably another year or so away.

Quote from fenn68 on April 15, 2025, 10:46 amLake Elsinore should be seeing some new blood very soon. They released two players ... Coffman and Montenino (former big international bonus kid) ... maybe b0th Tears and Roberts are now healthy enough to get activated.
