Pity that a few years back the Padres and the city of Escondido (and State of CA) could not have pulled off that regional ballpark plan for Escondido as the home of the Padres AAA franchise (as well as for a variety of North County events).
In that case at least the Padres AAA home games could be more “normal” in potentially a ballpark configured like PETCO.

Quote from MrPadre19 on June 1, 2023, 7:08 pmQuote from fenn68 on June 1, 2023, 5:31 pmAnother excellent outing for Mazur in FW … six shutout innings with only 4 hits and 0 BB … ERA now 1.45.
Getting some very strong SP in both FW and LE … maybe in about a month we see some moved up a level for a greater challenge.
Wolf and Snelling both dealing again tonight!
I’d feel a lot better about the team in SD if some of these guys were closer to the big leagues.

Quote from Randy Manese on June 2, 2023, 9:13 amBoth Snelling and Wolf threw 70% of their pitches for strikes, which is very good; Mazur was close with 68%. Snelling and Mazur, as well as a number of the A pitchers are being held to around 75 pitches per outing, while AA to AAA pitchers top out around 90. Guys coming back from TJ/on rehab varies but but Padres are keeping them below 50 if experiencing no control or arm issues and whatever looks safe if the pitcher is struggling. Wolf has really improved this year, keeping the ball in the park, lowering his BB rate, upping his K-BB%, and just needs to be a tad more consistent to earn that promotion to AAA (although we know El Paso is a pitcher killer!). I'd like to see more of Williams, hope to see Lowe again this year, and eagerly awaiting the debut of Lesko and the return of some young DSL pitchers who fared very well last year. Rookie leagues start Monday!

Quote from Randy Manese on June 3, 2023, 12:42 pmInitial Dominican Summer League Padres Brown and Gold Rosters set with 31 players in the former and 29 in the latter. That still leaves 19 players that either have made it to the Arizona Complex League or have been cut; if there were cuts, likely most involved the 12 yet unassigned pitchers. Expect the ACL roster assignments later today. Also, could see a little movement between in and out of Lake Elsinore (and possibly other teams in the system) as Padres continue to sort out players from extended spring training and those coming back from the injury lists.

Quote from Randy Manese on June 5, 2023, 9:05 amPadres Gold and Brown teams take an early lead in both their opening games, but these rookie league games can get wild with so many walks, wild pitches, errors, passed balls and hit batters involved. Still have not seen adjustments to the Arizona Complex League roster but the game is at 6 PM tonight, so curious if Lesko is going to be the opening day pitcher.

Quote from MrPadre19 on June 5, 2023, 12:28 pmDo we know who the guys to keep an eye on are in the DSL or is it too early to tell?
Any that were highly rated when signed etc?

Quote from Randy Manese on June 5, 2023, 5:30 pmJose Cordero ($625,000), Oliver Cedeno ($500,000) and Kashon Conliffe ($75,000) are the remaining higher bonus paid players in the Dominican this year; Cordero signed in 2019 while the other two were signed in 2022. The others who had high bonuses have either graduated to the Arizona Complex League or are injured and in extended spring training. Most of the players on this year's Brown and Gold teams were signed for $10,000 or less and although a few may break through, likely 75% or more of them won't even make it to Lake Elsinore. Still, you never know where players can come from so we'll see if any put up interesting statistic to get my attention.
On the other hand, the Arizona Complex League has several players who may have a future, including position players Montesino, Munoz, Rojas and King. There are also some interesting arms beyond Lesko. Might be worth a trip to Peoria to take a look if you can deal with the 100+ degree heat!

Quote from Randy Manese on June 6, 2023, 7:49 amSurprisingly, SP Henry Martinez was stretched to 4 IP in his debut and did well after two hard hit triples in the opening frame. Similarly, tried to stretch out Reiner Parra for 3 IP but he gave up the lead in the 7th with a whole lot of things going wrong in that inning; last two RP just added fuel to the fire. Linares and Karpathios, both of whom played a little at LE, did well as did Montesino and R Sanabria, who could be in the mix for a late season promotion to LE. Still hoping that Lesko gets into an early game and performs well; don't expect he'd go 4 innings like Martinez.
In the DSL, Padres teams play one another so only one will come out undefeated. The more experienced guys did well yesterday but tough starts for Cordero and Carrillo, who had decent years last year.
