The maximum number of active players on the El Paso roster is 28.  I can see them keeping from 13 to 15 active pitchers.  Currently, there are 24 pitchers listed on the El Paso roster and you can probably expect the Padres to send down 10-11 pitchers on their 40 man with options remaining.  Got a couple more weeks left before the rosters pare down but it will be interesting to guess which pitchers make the Chihuahua staff.  I'll give it a shot before the end of next week but whoever is on that staff, it is going to be a very good one!

Good luck!

Since all the affiliate rosters are “overstocked” with pitchers and some of those arms are vying to move up a level with ST performances going to be a challenge not only determine who the Padres retain but where they get placed. Could see some of the EP arms in SA (maybe even an optioned 40 man roster guy).

With NYY losing arms left and right 2/5 of their starters and some relievers on the shelf... could a Crismatt to NYY make sense..if Pads want to add Teheran to the 40/26?

Probably a few of the Padres could interest the NYY.

Sort of depends on who is currently impressing the Padres (and the NYY). If the planned starting 6 (plus one other) makes the Padres comfortable ... Maybe Teheran is dealt (if he has a ST opt out) ... Maybe Honeywell gets claimed off waivers ... Maybe for a better return Morejon is in play.

Then there is the Pomeranz factor ... if he every actually pitches in ST.

Both Teheran and Honeywell were signed as FA so they can't be dealt until after 6/15 if that is still a rule (new CBA)... why I picked Crismatt ..could we get Beeber (NYY #9) dude is fkng nasty, but some health issues.. for Nabil??

Really hoping Nabil "showcases" himself on the big stage WBC this next 2 weeks

I am losing faith in Morejon ever being more than a 100 IP #5 swing man with a mid 4.50 ERA.. maybe it's time to sell him for something while he still has a little "Dream on" value

Wonder if SD would have any interest in Hicks. Seems to have fallen out of favor in NYY. He is a SH capable of all three OF positions. AAV of $10M per season, and under control for 2 more years, and an option for 2026. Could be a better option over Dahl and Engel. Outside of his 2018 season where he had a lot of pop, he is about a league average hitter with some stolen base ability.

Crismatt and Pomeranz for Hicks? Money works out, gives SD a RF option until the return of Tatis, and back up for Grisham after that. Would open a roster spot for either Teheran or Honeywell.

My understanding (I am often wrong) but Honeywell can’t be traded UNLESS HE AGREES … which he might do if it means a ML deal. However, can put him on waivers and he goes via waivers.

Not sure on Teheran … as a ML FA can’t get traded until Jun 15 but not sure that also applies to a minor league deal. If the rule did apply Teheran would clearly agree to get a ML roster slot and a big payday.

With Morejon … since he is young, low cost with 3 years control (maybe 4 if optioned in 2023) would consider dealing him IF the return is good … not just to get rid of him.

Hard pass on Hicks … look at his past two season has you can see why the NYY want to move on (but can’t get a taker) … worse he looks to be their starting LF. For the Padres would be a bench piece I see as less ability than Azocar / Dahl on the bench and maybe a push with Engel.

Moreover, think Crismatt / Pomeranz have the potential to provide more value to the Padres (given the ins and out of RP) than a bench OF that almost never plays behind Soto / Grisham / Tatis or Cruz as DH. IF they could/would move those two pitchers …would target non-roster prospects since doubt their trade value is that great … so take the upside.

Note: over the past two years Profar was a better hitter than Hicks … so probably just sign him at this point on a one year deal for a similar (or lower) salary. No long term commitment.

Looks as though another contender is having SP problems with injuries … PHIL. Maybe pick up some prospects from them for one of the Padres’ excess.

As we speak of an oversupply of minor league pitchers ... the Padres just added LHRP CD Pelham to the El Paso roster. He was a minor league FA ... not really a good one.

CD one of them nasty gas throwing lefty with solid 10 5 /9IP SO.. but horrific BB/9 rate well north of 6... Closing experience a +.. interesting signing with all the surplus P we got..

I love the fact that Preller seems to be stocking up on pitchers for a couple of reasons…can never have enough pitching depth and adding trade chips for in season or deadline trades is great.
