College bats too. We have no real impact bats left in our system either.

Looks like drafting in the bottom 1/3rd of the rounds ... a lot of pressure on the scouting.

Quote from Randy Manese on August 18, 2022, 8:00 amWatched all of Dixon's AB's last night on MiLB. Good balance, nice compact stroke. First few hits were roped to and over the OF -LF line(2b)/Left Center (HR)/Right Center (3b) - while the last two ABs were of the infield variety, a fielder's choice to 2b and an infield hit deep at SS that he beat out.
Might move him up to El Paso if they have a chance for the playoffs, otherwise, likely keep him down for the Texas League playoffs. Will be a free agent after this season, however, with his experience the Padres will likely try to re-sign him and let him compete again in 2023 for a roster spot. If he keeps hitting like he has since his return from injury (and actually before his injury) he could be a very inexpensive addition to the roster vice Drury, Myers or even Bell. San Antonio is not El Paso in terms of whether the hits are legitimate. Can play 3b/OF/2b in an emergency but mostly a 1b/dh type. Speed is only average, maybe a little below as he's aged (will be 31 in January), but isn't a base clogger. Well built and appears very strong. Like his approach at the plate - has really improved his walk rate and lowered his K rate this year. Maybe a late blooming Justin Turner/Max Muncy type hitter that the Dodgers always seem to find later in their careers. Plus, he's from San Diego - born in La Jolla!

Yeah.. was going to post something similar.. Between Kowhley/Dixon/Hollis/Leyba/Howell/Ornelas/Azocar and Rosario (only young specs Rosario, Ornelas and Howell)/add Batten to the mix... we should have a nice battle for #11/12/13 position player spots (if not more) in ST..... Beaty/Campusano fighting for DH/1B/C spots or #10... should be fun

Low key 2022 did a lot of this.. besides the HS arms.. we did add 2 super talented P (injured or recovering) at the top of the draft... also a few college Bats who are off to solid Pro starts...
I can see a similar approach to 2022 in 2023...
Don't sleep on Tirso Ornelas AA (his power is evident ..just has t translated to in game) his Hit tool seems much much better as is his approach
LE has a ton of position players /some of which have moved to A+ on the up and coming stage..led by Merrill

Quote from fenn68 on August 18, 2022, 8:42 amDixon ... really!
31 next year and totally unimpressive in his ML work in 2018-20 with CINN/DET or his 2021 in Japan. He is a guy with ML / AAA experience playing in AA ... not the best indicator of his upside.
Re-sign him sure ... to a minor league deal with a ML camp invite ...then let him populate EP. Not a candidate for a 40 man roster spot this winter (if ever).

Quote from fenn68 on August 18, 2022, 8:55 amHonestly don't see any of the full season guys on offense in 2022 having much of a ML impact except Campusano, Rosario, and Merrill (all potentially) ... maybe Mears. More encouraged with the guys in short season and those just elevated to full season. Of course there will be a surprise out of the rest ... but probably more a "cup of coffee" guy.
One long shot under the radar may be Carlos Luis who is turning 23 soon and has had an undistinguished run since his signing in 2017 mainly in short season work. However, in 2022 he finally showed well at 1B in low A and got promoted to FW where he seems to be adapting. Not high projection but someone to follow.

I am inviting him to ST.. his only extended play in DET (MLB) was very Mazara like with more pop (maybe>) again not saying he makes 40/26.. but give him a shot in ML camp and see if he plays his way on..Azocar did...
