Quote from fenn68 on August 11, 2022, 5:54 pmWeathers gets hammered again … 1st inning … 4 runs (2 HR).
Never understood placing him in EP to start the season and never understood keeping him there as he continued to struggle all season.
Only 22 so not someone to give up on … #1 pick to the ML very early (too soon) and initially effective has to have some upside. No idea what went wrong with him.

He did have 7 SO tonight.. I think he just working on things tbh.. I think you going to see a good P for us in 2023.. he just getting his innings in..stretching himself and not worrying about stats.. he will be alright...too much bloodlines there for him not to be at least a Nick Martinez type Swing BP/SP guy... I have a 🌟 by his name as a breakout P for us in SD 2023

Quote from Randy Manese on August 12, 2022, 8:22 amIf you think watching Snell pitch is maddening, then just watch a typical start from Weathers. He can look good and then horrible in the same hitter's at bat. Catches way too much of the plate and cannot consistently command his FB; that coupled with a drop in velocity makes him very ordinary. Has gone from a ground ball pitcher earlier in his career to a fly ball pitcher and the results haven't been pretty. Continually getting hard hit. Yes, he's gotten his walks down but by leaving too many balls in the hitting zone for hitters he should be able to get out; still his walks used to be 2-3 per 9 innings and now it's 5-6. K's have gone down from 8-9 to 6-7. If he's going to become the pitcher we once saw, needs to take advice to heart, get in better shape and really focus on his craft. Agreed that El Paso is not the right place to resuscitate your pitching career but when you are serving up batting practice pitches, you are going to get hit hard anywhere you pitch. Maybe send him down to San Antonio next year to start because he certainly is not going to make the Padres' 2023 26 roster based on is performance this year.

As expected, Doersching assigned to LE … let us see some mammoth HR!

Lawson retired? Are Arrieta and Velasquez available for 2023?

Quote from Randy Manese on August 13, 2022, 3:31 pmFor Lawson, it seems like he was completed frustrated by his regression in July and August. If he hadn't retired, Padres should have shut him down once it became obvious he was starting to lose command/velocity again after the number of innings pitched mounted. Was going to be a free agent anyway after this year, so I hope he reconsiders and hooks up with Niebla for some intensive overhauling of his delivery and a bolstering up of the mental toughness needed to overcome so much adversity. Having just turned 25, still has a chance to come back; it's just a matter of whether he really wants to. I'm keeping him in my spreadsheets until I'm convinced he's done. When he made that great push in June, you could see the joy in his face for seemingly having found his way back to where he once was; sure like to see that smile again!

Quote from Henry Silvestre on August 14, 2022, 8:15 pmAzocar had himself a game at EP 4 for 4 ..2 2Bs 1 HR 4 RBIs... having a real good AAA showing while playing CF... Can see him having a backup CF/5th OF if not 4th.. role similar to the start of this year.. looks as though he is taking his game up a couple notches ..
