Quote from Henry Silvestre on August 7, 2022, 7:14 amQuote from Randy Manese on August 6, 2022, 11:19 pmUnfortunately, Lawson has regressed from what he did in June. His last couple of starts, lack of command a lack of velocity. Looks like he is a batting practice pitcher lobbing up extremely hittable balls that are being smoked. Maybe he just hit a wall. If so, needs to be shut down.
On the other hand, Lizarraga looked very good and has really progressed over the season in LE. Got a little tired in the 7th after throwing more than 80 pitches but only gave up 2 hits. Still only 18 1/2, looking forward to him moving through the system and hopefully, maintains his health.
Yeah looks like Lawson is hitting that WALL.. needs to get a start or 2 more and see if he can break through it or simple shut down and workout til winter ball or spring

Base on his last 4 starts, giving him more starts may hurt more than help. Not sure want to over stress an arm that is coming off surgery and a long layoff.
Last 3 starts only went 1.2 innings in each giving up a lot of hits and walks. The one just before was just 3 innings also given up a lot of hits and walks.
Maybe sit him for a few weeks (work on the sidelines) and give him another go near the end of the season.

Quote from fenn68 on August 7, 2022, 11:14 amAny guess on who may get promoted to LE after the ACL shuts down in mid-August?
Most are guessing 1B Doershing ... combo of skill, age, and no 1B in LE will do the trick. They have moved up two OF prospects in Zavala and Salinas already ... Murillo maybe?
Any ACL pitchers doing well enough to get a taste of A ball?
Any chance of seeing Merrill get a taste of FW? He clearly is better than low A ball already and FA does not have a player blocking him from a prospect ceiling standpoint. That might allow an ACL INF to move to LE.
Getting 70-80 AB at a higher level in 2022 might help the transition in 2023.

Quote from Randy Manese on August 7, 2022, 2:01 pmAmong the draftees, Pauley and Marsee should move up along with Doersching; Robertson might be promoted because of his age. Of the free agent position players, Valentine might go up since he was signed away from his commitment to Tennessee.
Earlier, though Baez might go up but he got hit hard lately and may not be so important for him to be promoted. One surprise promotion may be former infielder Justin Lopez who has done very well in all but 1 of his RP outings. Don't see anyone else who is ready.
Because of his injury and time lost in recovery/rehab, not expecting Merrill to be promoted despite the fact that his numbers say he is ready. I'd like him to finish strong in LE in the playoffs and start next year at Ft. Wayne. It's entirely possible that he could reach San Antonio next year.

Quote from fenn68 on August 9, 2022, 10:42 amPadres did some housecleaning on Monday.
Released: Northcraft; Bergen Feole; Paulina; Fermin; Green; Sparling; Sweeting; Hernandez ...
Promoted to AAA: RP Belen; Felipe; Quezada
Demoted to AA: RP Gavin
Promoted to AA: RP Bencomo; SP Vela; OF Acosta
Demoted to A+: Ulrich
Reclassified Burdi to full season IL (does not count against the 180 limit)
I guess this signals the activation of a number of the draft picks and probably a precursor to some move up for the ACL to full season.

Quote from Randy Manese on August 9, 2022, 3:11 pmOliver Carillo continues to rake in the Dominican. Chunky RH hitting 1b/dh/corner OF (5:11, 210) from Mexico has 8 HRs (hit 2 today) in only 85 AB's with OPS over 1200. With only a couple of weeks to go, it will be interesting to see if he can keep up that pace after starting the season late. Walk rate is over 19%, while K rate is around 23%. Not bad for his professional debut. BABIP over 400, which probably means his 350+ BA is unsustainable but the power seems to be there - 60% extra base hit rate with 8 doubles and 2 triples to go along with those 8 HRs. Age a bit of a concern but let's keep our fingers crossed.
