Quote from Randy Manese on April 9, 2022, 3:48 pmGore goes tonight and I've got my fingers crossed. Should be working with Campy and a pretty good defense behind him. Pitch location will be the key.
By the way, Gasser wasn't really that bad. Had a lot of movement and late break on his pitches and the plate ump missed several good pitches that would have retired the side. I think that frustrated Gasser and got him away from trusting his best pitches - besides, it was very cold at game time. Look for him to bounce back in his next outing.

Quote from Notmyopic on April 9, 2022, 7:12 pmOkay, I’m starting to be a believer that Gore is back. Is he once again the pitcher that was the best pitching prospect in baseball? He looked so good tonight.

Quote from Randy Manese on April 9, 2022, 10:20 pmGore did look pretty good tonight - never in any real trouble. Mostly fastballs early and sliders late with FB touching 97. Plate ump missed some very good sliders that he called balls. Didn't see much of the curveball or change.
I got 14 swings/misses accounting for 6 of 7 K's. At least 8 called strikes, with 1 K looking. 11 Flyball strikes. No really hard hit balls. Look very poised. Hopefully, he can continue to stay sharp despite moving to high altitude parks the rest of April.
Garcia looked very good in his rehab at Lake Elsinore - announcers said he reached 100 mph. Looks like he could come up any time.

Quote from fenn68 on April 10, 2022, 6:23 amLizarraga made the start yesterday for LE. He is a much heralded signing out of Mexico in 2021 .. and is only 18 (for the whole 2022 season).
Stat line was not great: 3.2 innings / 71 pitches / 1 run / 3 hits / 4 walks / 1 HBP / 2 wild pitches.
However, the fact that the Padres think enough of his potential / development to send him this soon to low A is a reason to include him on the top prospect watch.

From today's DFR ... https://madfriars.com/2022/04/10/storm-lose-late-lead-fall-to-inland-empire/
Storm starter Victor Lizarraga didn’t have his best stuff, laboring through the first three innings while issuing four walks, a hit batter and a pair of wild pitches. Even with all the traffic, he limited the Angels affiliate to just one run before finally finding something of a rhythm in the fourth. He struck out the two batters he faced in his final frame before reaching his pitch limit. The 18-year-old righty relied heavily on his changeup and a fastball that sat 91-94.
“I thought he did look comfortable in that fourth inning when he started punching tickets there,” said Junge. “He raised his game in a way that’s exciting to see a young player do, and that bodes well for the future.”

Quote from MrPadre19 on April 10, 2022, 9:39 amAfter I remembered I had Milbtv I watched his last inning.
Forgot he was so young.
He blew his last hitter away on 3 pitches…..getting him on a high fastball.
I think the fastball at the eyes is the most under appreciated out pitch by the way.
If you can avoid missing and laying it in at the letters it’s almost impossible to hit that pitch.

Quote from Randy Manese on April 10, 2022, 10:34 amI also watched on MiLB. Lizarraga actually wasn't that bad the first 3 innings - umpire squeezed him on some of his pitches with more movement. Seemed to have trouble with his set-up and delivery (stepping back with left foot and then firing) with no runners on base but better with just lifting up the left leg and going to the plate. Nice velocity and good movement on change up. Still needs some mechanical adjustments on release point but you can see the potential in this 18 year old. Hits he gave up weren't hit that hard. I think he'll get better as the year goes on.

Quote from MrPadre19 on April 10, 2022, 12:42 pmWith Mears and Wood (and Hassell) both hitting homers today makes me think about our future lineup.

Now about that Rotation……

I'd expect Gore and Musgrove to be here for sure. I would not expect Darvish here and Clevinger is a toss up.
