Minor League Discussion

Why does Grisham just see 3 pitches pass for a K. Drives me crazy.

Wrong thread 😑

We need a couple guys to develop on the Farm the next two years.

Maybe draft a couple college starters this year?

We just don’t have any great SP prospects other than Gore to be honest.

So we have this guy…..who I’m a big fan of….down in our system and this is his Minor League Career line in 191 games.

.322/385/428 with 68 stolen bases….that’s a career .813 OPS.

No mentions….never in our top 30.

All he does is Hit….steal bases…..and score runs.

Should be our back up Centerfielder, but again…..I’m the only one who’s ever mentioned his name.

Anyone know who I’m referring too?

Podorsky?

Edit: Yup ... https://www.milb.com/player/robbie-podorsky-676864

And ... he went 4-for-4 today!  In the 9-hole for AA San Antonio ... hmmm

He could be our outfield David Eckstein!

With the first pick at #15 (I think) ... not likely to get a top college pitcher who will be ready in two years.

Agree Gore is the only "clear" top prospect but still have a chance the Weathers, Knehr, and Morejon trio can produce at least one (hopefully more) quaintly SP.

As payroll shifts around ... could see next winter's focus (maybe sooner) the extensions of Musgrove and Manaea. Remember they are both around $9MM so the increase to maybe $22MM is not insurmountable.  Both are around 30 and both seem to be generally inning eaters as well as being top half of the rotation guys. Gore, Musgrove, and Manaea could be a good base for years ... plus in 23 Darvish and Snell return, maybe Martinez but likely gone soon after.

I like Clevinger ... but his injury history just doesn't justify an extension of any length.

Basically, if they really like the bats coming and who will be league minimus for years .... shift the payroll focus to pitching.

Except he seems to be injured ... a lot. Plus, Padres don't seem to like him in CF although he has the speed.

Actually like the kid ... wish he stuck in AAA ... he is getting up there in prospect age terms.

Re-signing Musgrove and Manaea should be top priority.

Also possibly stretching out Crismatt.

It just seems a little off that we don’t really have any decent pitching prospects below AAA.

At least….not that have separated themselves yet.

What does anyone know about Alek Jacob?

Two guys we had hopes for have looked awful in the early going - Weathers and Kerr.  Hopefully, they'll right the ship and throw like they have been in the past.  Weathers and Kerr just couldn't locate the plate and got themselves into hitters counts and as a result got hit hard.  Somehow El Paso still won their home opener on a grand slam by Rooker, despite Gavin giving up 2HRs in the top of the 9th.

Wood has missed two straight games at Lake Elsinore but no word on whether he was injured or ill. Hopefully, he'll be back in action soon - he was off to a great start!.

I read that it's a minor wrist issue for Wood and he should be back soon.
