Are Pads in any jeopardy with rising payroll, and presumably attendance, as they improve, of losing their Comp Balance draft picks?  Or are they "locked in" based on market size?  Anyone know?

They aren't in jeopardy. It's based on home media market size, which is why the Cardinals continue to have a comp pick each year.

With 6 of BA's Top 8 in Padres' system:  #1 Gore, #2 Patino, #4 Trammell, #6 Morejon, #7(!) Munoz, #8 Baez   PLUS

another 4 in the next tier of #12-17:   #12 O. Miller, #13 Bolanos, #15 Cronenworth, & #17 Olivares

anywhere from Highly to Somewhat likely to graduate as prospects, it's hard to see Padres (still very "deep") Farm as a top 10 system next year even with: Abrams, Campusano, and a top 10 draft pick leading that class.  Only if:  widely better than expected performances system-wide (some depth "risers"), 2 of top 3 names NOT graduating, or unexpectedly becoming Sellers @ deadline.  But still likely top 15?

Ridiculous to really even look that far ahead, but what do you guys think?

Guys like Head/Mears/Ona/Ornelas/Arias/Hunt/Lawson/Cantillo/Weathers/etc... all can take quantum leaps -- not to mention J2 2019 signings, and as you mention upcoming draft--- I think we will still be top 8 or so

Henry, I hope you're right about Ornelas (Tirso). I recently read that Ornelas has a very slow swing (it's too long) and has likely topped out already. I wonder how folks that watch him or speak to his hitting coach think about Ornelas and his swing. And whether he has any projection to him still. Maybe David Jay can answer that?

I think they re did his swing when they sent him from LE to AZL last summer.. When he came back up to LE he had shortened his swing and was much better at the plate

That is great news. Looking forward to seeing what happens with him and his new swing.

As you can probably infer from in my top 30, I don't agree with the analysis you heard.

David, how can I read that? Where do I go and what do I do?

Good start for Arias 1 for 1 with a stolen base at 19 years old.

Yeah, Tingler gave him a strong review too....

I can't wait to see how the Minor League rosters shake out.

I do know just thinking about that roster in Amarillo is exciting.

Gore/Patino/Trammell/Campusano/Arias is a pretty good start!
