Around the League...non Padres

Yeah, trading a Catcher isn't like trading a Pitcher at deadline; has to learn the entire staff, etc.  Even though he's great, only some teams will have any interest, etc.  Don't think his trade value will increase over whatever it is now.

Agree .... but not sure Miami sees the current situation the same way. At the core, they apparently don't want to just trade Realmuto ... they want to get at least one showcase piece (plus more). With all the reported suitors, they are not getting that now. Since they don't want another Yelich - Ozuna type deal ... they hold. Maybe they don't get a team during the season to do better than the current offers but maybe yes or at least maybe the same.

In part, maybe Miami is a victim of the media hype on Realmuto ... and the potential trading partners don't see his value the same way. Not that Miami has that may fans but internally they maybe need to show that they are just not shedding talent for table scraps to keep any shred of credibility at home.

Bottom line trading two years of a low cost top catcher for a volume of "nice" prospects maybe be just not justifiable to Miami.

You would think they would prefer multiple prospects who "might" develop into stars then just average ML types like Starlin Castro and Martin Prado.

Those are decent ML players...but they aren't going to change the Marlins fortunes over the next few seasons.

Profar dealt to the A's for ....not much?

That is how the got burned on the other trades ... that "might" may be considered too long a shot. Looks like they are more focused on the likes of Tucker (Houston), Senzel (CINN), Tatis (SD),et.al. .... get the point ML ready top prospects.

Sort of the anti Padre trade of Kimbrel for Guerra, Asuaje, Allen, and Margot .... none of which are major impacts for the Padres 3 years after the deal. Don't see Miami waiting that long for that kind of payback.

Spangenberg signs with the Brewers for 1 yr / 1.2 million or 250K minor league while in the minors

Report: Brewers sign Cory Spangenberg to one-year contract

Of all teams though it would seem the Marlins could now play the long game.

Allen is about to start paying off for us and I still have hope Margot will start to give us solid production at the plate.

All front offices have different philosophies ... and different evaluations of prospects. Clearly some will go volume with upside (and risk) and other maybe more conservative will want less volume but higher probability of achieving their upside.

We are a bit at a disadvantage in not having any idea what prospects have been put in play on any of these discussions. Could be a volume of prospects that Miami just does not see the upside per their scouting. Going a bit extreme but if the Padres offered Diaz, Torrens, Naylor, and Lawson ... all with some legit prospect upside ... easy for me to keep Realmuto and wait for a better offer. Point is we just don't know what is on the table ... and just because it is an offer does not make it worth taking.

Puig - Kemp - Wood - money to CINN for Bailey ... bunch of misc. moving around to fill it out.

LAD gets salary cap relief because if AAVs ,,, CINN saves some dollars / adds some minor pieces I guess in 2019 ... all of these guys are FA (or will have their option decline after 2019.

With Puig and Kemp in the OF ... IN CINN ... might expect some big numbers in their walk year. Maybe trade deadline fodder for some nice prospect (and save some more money.)

In 2019, CINN could have a pretty good offense all around ... nicely covered at all positions then in 2020 they fall down a rabbit hole when Puig - Kemp - Gennett move on as FA. With their pitching staff will not win much but might be very annoying to other teams.

LAD still may be opening the assault on Harper now that the OF has cleared up a bit.

This is one that is best evaluated months down the road.

Reds going all in on 2019?

Would seem they still need to add some starting pitching.

Do they have any money left to sign Keuchel ?

Their GM says the have more money to spend and are still looking for a legit CF and more SP ... so not done.

This deal cost them about $7MM (net) and two legit prospects who fit into the LAD prospect list at #7 and #16 albeit as low level minor leaguers. Of course the will get production out of Puig, Kemp, and Wood vs. zero from Bailey (who got released by the LAD after the deal). So sounds like a good deal for CINN (and their fans) for 2019.

Still hard to see CINN overtaking Cubs, Milw, and StL but could be competitive enough to create more losses for the other Division teams and knock the #2 out of the Wild Card. Adds pressure on the other 3?

Where CINN may benefit is at the trade deadline ... Puig, Kemp, and Wood all going FA after the season may be good 2 month rentals on some contending teams and yield prospects better than they dealt to get them or the gain of a Comp Pick if they don't and offer a QO.

But this sure looks like a one and done scenario since FA to be are Kemp (LF) ... Puig (RF) ... Gennett (2B) ... Roark (SP) .... Wood (SP) .... Hernandez (RP) ... Hughes (RP). On the other hand that would take their estimated payroll down form $120MM to $60MM. Should be a lot of room to sign FA ... but getting a FA SP to go and pitch in CINN will cost extra I would expect. Keuchel as a ground ball / soft contact pitcher might fit and go on a major overpay. Would not be surprised if they gamble on Pollack for CF.

As for the LAD ... creates luxury tax room and a needy OF .... solution all in on Harper? As of now the depth chart has #1 prospect Verdugo in RF and he was the main target from Miami for Realmuto and from Cleveland for Kluber / Bauer .... guess both those rumors are on life support.
