Good. I don't like him that much and him being off the market may keep us from doing something stupid. Of course, that could just be something the Rockies say to let you know that the price will be very high. Please just walk away from this one AJ.
Do you think he has reached his peak or is just not that good of a pitcher? I've been advocating his acquisition for two years now. I think he is one of the few actually attainable potential TOR out there the headline no withstanding. I have no intention of selling my watch, but for the right price, well.

I think he has reached his peak and I don't see him improving outside of Coors field. He is built for Coors with a big fastball and mediocre breaking balls. His low-spin pitches will not improve much in the thicker air.
They will be trying to trade him as a premium pitcher. I know that everybody tries to sell their players as "premium" but I just don't see them trading him unless they get a huge return. I am sure he will not be worth a huge return. He is basically just an innings eater. He is a far more expensive Lucchesie with less control.

Obviously I'm more bullish on him. His stuff doesn't need an upgrade from leaving Coors. I'll see your comp and raise you a Zack Wheeler comp.

Quote from JasonE135 on November 27, 2019, 5:04 pmAs far as results and pure stuff that is a pretty fair comparison. However, that just lowers my somewhat bullish recent assessment of Wheeler. Their fastballs are similar but Wheeler has always been known to have superior breaking stuff. If he has not been able to absolutely dominate with what he has, I see no reason to sign him to a large contract.

Quote from BoosterSD on December 6, 2019, 8:03 pmA quick interesting read on CBS, about the all decade team for the 2020's. Spoiler alert, it has two Padres on the list, but not a SS. Check out this scenario, Tatis slides to 3B, and Machado to 1B, to make room for Abrahms. I dont think this is right, and see Abrahms more as a 2B or CFer. BTW, Gore is the other Padre on the list.

Quote from MrPadre19 on December 10, 2019, 7:50 amIMO the Nats would have been much smarter to bring back Rendon than Stras.
They already have huge contracts on Scherzer and Corbin....so still 2 really good TOR starters already on roster.
Besides Rendon playing everyday they also have 4 of their top 6 prospects as Starters and no 3b in the wings.
So now they gotta go get a guy.
I also think it would be alot easier to get a Starter for $10 mil to replace "some" of what they lost in Stras then it would be to find an inexpensive 3b that could give them even close to what Rendon did.
Now if they swing a trade for Bryant that would be different...but don't think they have the prospects for that even with Kieboom included.
They now have $600 mil tied up in just 3 starting pitchers!
If any get hurt they are toast.

Have to wonder a bit about Rendon's desire to return to WASH vs. exploring a different opportunity ... everyone believed Strasburg wanted to return. Add the reports that Rendon may be leaning towards a very high AAV but only for 5 years and retire.
Could see WASH go in on Donalson ... shorter commitment and less AVV than Rendon. Think they have the payroll space.
Also a factor in going for Strasburg is that Scherzer only has 2 more years of control (at about $35MM per) and resigning him for 2022 at age 37 is debatable. Should also note that some of the national types are saying that there are no FA SP coming available in the class of Cole / Strasburg ...

As with most long term deals ... probably don't really care.
Gamble is that they out perform in the early years ... win some titles .... GM retires ... the out years are someone else's problem.
If you are LAA not a good strategy ... see Pujols, Hamilton, and others but it is how they sometimes think.
