Around the League...non Padres

I like watching Batting Title races ... this year in NL is a good one ...

But even more interesting is the WAR race in AL!

Betts went 4-for-5 yesterday to inch ahead of Trout ...

I think its pretty amazing that as much attention as Ohtani has received he hasn't received enough.

Do you realize that he had "45" xbh in only 318 AB's?

22 home runs in 318 AB's.

That's a HR every 14.4 AB's which would make him 6th in the majors at HR/AB if he even had enough AB's to qualify.

There's really only one player ahead of him who I would say is a better player.....and that's Mike Trout.

And even Trout can't pitch.....lol

After he has surgery he obviously will only hit next season.....I can only imagine what he will accomplish if he gets 550 AB's.

Oakland A’s make the playoffs with the lowest payroll in MLB.

In fact.....three of the bottom four payrolls have had very good years with two(Braves/A’s) making the playoffs and the Rays winning 88 games in a very tough Division.

The fourth?

The Padres!

Further evidence that you don’t have to spend $200 mil to build a good baseball team and that we can’t seem to build a winner regardless.

Do you realize the A’s are in the Playoffs and their starting rotation is:

Mike Fiers

Edwin Jackson

Brett Anderson

Trevor Cahill

I mean.......really?

When again is our turn?

When again is our turn?

2020 ... and beyond!

Isn't it darkest before the dawn?

What do you want different?

I think the Padres on course for "our turn" ... I do not believe they have all the key pieces yet to win a WS ... and the decisions to sign Myers and Hosmer still don't look good to me ... but ... the general consensus does seem to be that no other org has what the Padres have in the minors ... and, from my understanding of history, that is a good indicator of future success.

I'm looking forward to 2019 ... and 2020 ... and 2021 ... and beyond ... hang in their, compadres!

What do I want different?

How about the last 30 years.

How about our inability to draft and develop a regular All Star.

When Chase Headley is arguably the best position player we have drafted and developed in the last “30” years there’s an issue somewhere.

He's an amazing talent and it's awesome to see the success.

Has anyone seen a statement from the Angels on what their rehab plan for him is? Presumably he won't be clear to even DH until just about the start of May. Will they just send him out for a brief hitter's rehab, get him back to the big league club, and then put him into the TJ pitching rehab schedule, which would have him throwing on flat surfaces by mid-year?

Jim Callis said we could get rid of our “8” guys on the top 100 and the Padres would still have one of the top Farm systems!

Gotta love it!

Fangraphs writer asked in chat today which two MiLB prospects he would want to "start a farm system".  His response was "Vlad and Gore."  Always fun to see the system get plugged.  Now let's friggin' produce!

It's not a stretch by any means to assume that Gore will get past those blister problems, but by no means is it assured.

That said, it's very fun to see Gore still so highly regarded despite his those issues this season.
