Should we be talking about Osvaldo Hernandez?

Not in this "non Padres" thread 🙂

Oops.

😉

A good read about some good trades ...

... which includes the usual caveat: Prospects are always uncertain

Looks like the Phillies are fully suspecting the DH to come to the NL!

They are already defensively handicapped playing Hoskins in LF so they can put Santana at 1b.....now they trade for "another" 1b in Justin Bour?

How many 1b do they need?

??????? Maybe they "needed" a LHPH for the pennant run.

Hoskins, Santana, and Bour are all under control for a number of years ... might create a problem unless they just non-tender Bour ... he is 30 and making now $3.4MM.

Another sign that the one dimensional 1B/DH value (unless a real star) is diminishing ... as Lind and Morrison from last winter.

Given the Padres' near term prospects ... hope your inference to the NL DH is more reality than fantasy. Mejia, Naylor, Allen ... linked with Reyes, Renfroe, and Cordero all represent potential offensive upgrades but without any defensive option (they are either poor defensively or blocked).

I am an old geezer and a traditionalist so therefore am opposed to the DH coming to the NL.

However,if it's inevitable then let's go ahead and get it over with.

I think this more and more everyday when I see Renfroe and Reyes in the OF...and as you say Mejia could basically

hit everyday and and only Catch 2-3 days a week and we would still have plenty of other bats who could DH.

But then again....so could every other team in the NL.

Just read this ... https://www.minorleagueball.com/2018/8/29/17794316/red-sox-swept-rays-are-the-real-story

On the season, Mallex Smith is batting .308 with a .377 OBP in 116 games played.

Who knew?  I'm (net) happy when former Padres' prospects are successful ... I was not at all opposed to trading him ... he seemed unlikely to blossom ... turns out he did ... bummer we traded him ... yeah that our development staff turned out a major leaguer ...

In the “incredible feat of the relatively unknown” category:

Trevor Story is about to be the first SS in Major League history to have 30hr,402b and 25 sb’s.

Yes it’s never been done in the history of baseball and with 3 more steals Francisco Lindor will do it too.

In the same season!

Great thing about baseball David - after 1000's of games, at bats, players, etc., there are still "firsts" happening all the time.

Great sport and I can't wait for our Padres to challenge for a title!

Go Pads!

For the 14th consecutive season, Minor League Baseball attendance eclipsed the 40 million fan mark. This season saw 40,450,337 fans take in a minor league game.

The 2018 season was one of record-setting proportions. The Dayton Dragons (Cincinnati Reds) remarkable sellout streak, which began back in 2000, reached 1,316 games. It is the longest streak in professional sports.
