Quote from fenn68 on January 13, 2026, 10:37 amQuote from BoosterSD on January 13, 2026, 10:02 amArenado is heading back to the NL West. AZ has traded for Arenado in exchange for a MiL taken in the 8th round of 2025. AZ is also getting cash to Arenado's salary for AZ is $5M this season and $6M next season.
How the might have fallen ... both Arenado and STL.
Arenado no longer can hit ... hard to believe he would only yield a throw in player and STL had to throw in a ton of money.
STL ... an historically successful franchise ... is now going into total rebuild mode and not sure the last time they did that. They have a chance at being the worst team in the NL. A very bad roster except for a couple of bats.
Payroll-wise they historically spend in that $160-170MM range (so never big spenders) but as it stand for 2026 they are at $104MM and that includes $41MM for players no longer in the organization (Arenado, Gray, Contreras) ... so a net payroll for active players is $63MM. Apparently they still may move some more salary for prospects even lowering the cash out more. Looking forward their two most expensive players are FA after the season ... and some of the money owed to other teams ends.

and not that impressive group of prospects. Bit surprised Weathers did not generate a better return ... even though he is not that compelling he is still a competent ML arm.

In this time ... hard to see Bichette getting a 10-11 year deal ... maybe $30MM AAV but on a shorter deal.
Tucker also wants that long term deal ... lower AAV but more guaranteed total money.
Side: hard to believe the METS are serious about that offer (but possible). METS are #2 in CBT payroll at over $300MM (into 3rd tier). That has them in the 110% penalty zone. So, signing Tucker at $50MM AAV actually costs the Mets $105MM for one player. That would be more for one player than 9 other teams TOTAL payroll.
Cohen could do it ... would put the Mets and LAD even further above the pack in spending.

Quote from MrPadre19 on January 14, 2026, 10:34 am$300 mil and still missed the playoffs....I'm sure there's a lot of pressure on some people in that Org to win next season.
But the Owner is still the one that has to pony up.
If it were me I'd say if you can't make the playoffs outspending every single MLB team but one....maybe you aren't the right guys?

Injured in Korea.
Brutal blow for Kim and the Braves.
Kim had recently signed a 1yr /$20 mil contract with Atlanta.

Quote from fenn68 on February 17, 2026, 12:18 pmTony Clark steps down as the head of the MLBPA ... just as the "pre-work" on the new CBA begins. Leading candidate is the lead negotiator who is really a tough negotiator and not liked by MLB.
If he takes control ... might make the negotiations even more contentious.
Note that he was critical in landing Skubal that recored arb decision and is a no compromise on a salary cap.
Maybe this increases the odds of a work stoppage or maybe the owners may have to capitulate on some of their objectives to avoid a long (and costly) work stoppage.
Just an interesting twist into the unknown.
