Our buddy Profar, just busted again for PEDs!! 2nd time and he will now miss the entire season and forfeit his $15M salary. Wow!!

We dodged a bullet there.

Profars' suspensions and Kim being hurt regularly....we got lucky in both instances

With Profar's statistically different season in 2024 for SD, I wonder was he on PEDs then and didnt get caught? Or when he got the big contract from ATL, did he feel pressure to exceed that 2024 performance and jumped on the PED bandwagon.

Either way, SD definitely dodged a bullet with Profar.

Just saw that Baroid Bonds only ever hit more than 50 HR's in one season( the 73 he hit in 2001) and reached 49 once( 2000) Then 46,45,45 from 2002-2004

Without those obvious outliers, he's probably not even in the 700 club.

Note that The Hammer NEVER hit 50 HR'S in a season( a high of 47 then a handful of 44).

This has no relevance to anything other than I still think it's one of the great mis-justices of the American past time.( Maybe seeing Bam Adebayo score 83 the other night in an NBA game he clearly should have been pulled from much earlier got me riled up?)

Anyway, looking at the 40/40 club- Canseco, ARoid, Bonds withstanding - guys like Soriano and Acuna were/are really impressive ( Ohtani is on a different planet!) Anyone think Nando has a shot of joining the group?

Old Friend Alert ...

The Marlins will need to open a 40-man roster spot but that should be as easy as transferring right-hander Adam Mazur to the 60-day injured list. Mazur underwent Tommy John surgery a few weeks ago and will miss the entire season.

Just saw this note ... the Mets never won a game in 2025 when trailing after eight innings last season.

We think (know) the Padres have SP woes?  Have you checked out the Braves?

I could see Marquez or Buehler being traded to the Braves once Musgrove is ready provided one or both has performed at least like a #5 SP.  Understand either would have to give permission to such a trade but the Braves are a good team so likely not an issue.  Not expected to get much in return unless we pair with a RP to hopefully get someone in their top 20 prospects, maybe one of their huge (6:07+) RHPs Luke Sinnard or Garrett Baumann.

Given that both signed with the Padres for really low cost make good type contracts ... and if they have looked good enough for another team to want to trade for them ... if I am them (or their agents) demand the price to agree to a trade be a new increased contract (or a bonus transfer fee) or otherwise just let me to be a FA and as such get a better contract (maybe with a team I like better). I know you can't (don't want to) keep me. Player has leverage here.

Everyone will know the Padres will have to DFA one ... no big incentive to give much in a trade for a #5 that couldn't make the weekend Padres' staff and might just wait to try to sign as a FA. If one wanted to jump the line with a trade ... maybe some international bonus money or comp pick if possible ... otherwise some Preller hidden prospect in A/Rookie ball with upside.

The first bump issue may be Waldron for the SP ... he pitch already in his EP rehab and is out of options. So maybe 2 - 3 starts for Buehler and Marquez before Waldron needs to be dealt with (remember max 30 day rehab for pitchers) ... who will be low hanging fruit? Would any team claim Waldron off waivers? Would any team trade for Waldron and Padres avoid the Buehler / Marquez until Musgrove (just started throwing again) or Canning (has been throwing for some time) steps into the picture.

Just listened to an interview with Luis Arraez ... don't recall hearing him much when he was a Padres ... but he really comes off as a good guy ... intelligent and pretty honest communicator.

First of all he really was positive about his time in SD ... the clubhouse / team and his relationship with Preller.

Asked if the Padres were in contact to resign him and, yes, Preller apparently was in contact with him several times. However, Arraez said his primary wish was to play 2B and SF gave him the opportunity.

Then at the end ... as an aside ... he said he only signed a one year contract ... so?

Remember FA after 2026 include France, Castellanos, Andujar, and Laureano with no real ML quality prospects on track for 2027. Sheets is only around through 2027. Depends on how 2026 goes but maybe a chance of a reunion give what appears to a positive relationship between Arraez and Preller/Padres.

I love Old Friend Alerts ...

Astros outfielder Zach Cole broke a toe on his right foot while playing in a Triple-A game, reports Brian McTaggart of MLB.com. He was hit by a pitch from Rangers’ non-roster reliever Mason Thompson in the fourth inning on Sunday. He’s out indefinitely, according to McTaggart.
