Rivera was 100% vote
Anyone else have a problem with this?
The 100% vote I mean.
Obviously Mariano Rivera is a Hall of Famer....but he gets 100% when guys like Ty Cobb.....Ken Griffey Jr....Willie Mays, Hank Aaron....and well, every other player in the history of baseball didn't?
I've always had issue with voters who say...."he's a HOF player but NOT a first ballot HOF player".
Which kind of contradicts this but of all the players in the history of Major League Baseball a Relief Pitcher is the first ever to be unanimous?

Quote from WindsorUK on January 25, 2019, 9:25 amI was thinking the same thing,GHOF.
A relief pitcher the first to get in unanimously? Extremely hypocritical.
Rivera was GREAT in season and the GOAT in post season but still......a reliever.

Quote from Booster SD on January 25, 2019, 10:14 amI agree with your points MrP. You have to really believe in the East coast bias thing here. If Rivera was a Twin or a Brave he is not a unanimous decision IMO. Also, remember there is the guy in BOS; of all places, that abstained from voting this year because he would not vote for Rivera and didnt want his vote to prevent him from being the first "unanimous" entrant to the HOF. I will really lose respect for the voters if Jeter is a 100% entrant as well.

Quote from fenn68 on January 25, 2019, 10:50 amProbably a lot of factors in the HOF voting. Part would stem for a number of the "old voters" who would never vote for a RP or DH or just took the approach if Ruth, Mays, et. al. were not unanimous ... no one should be ... are dropping by the wayside as voters being replace by the "new wave" of voters who just look at the process differently ... especially stat wise ... but as the game is played today.
One other issue is historically a player stays on the ballot for (now) 10 years trying to get the required votes and only if the get less than 5% (?) do they come off. I would think in the past a voter could just easily bypass voting for a player know if he did not make it they could make it up later since they can only vote for 10 per year.
Maybe they should expand the number limit (or unlimited) of players a voter can submit BUT at the same time increase the drop line to something like 50% and the years to maybe 3. If 50% of the voters (given the total freedom to do so) don't think a player deserves the HOF ... that should be it.
I love Cooperstown, the HOF building and exhibits but really don't care that much about individual getting in (or not) especially since it is getting watered down has the Hall of Stats and not Fame ... yea, I am a small hall type.

Quote from sportwarrior on January 25, 2019, 1:29 pmI've got zero problem with Rivera getting a unanimous election. It's definitely annoying that HE's the first guy to get it (and not Cal or Griffey or Tony), but I'm not all that concerned with it.
Agree 1000% with Booster on Jeter, though. If that overrated idiot is unanimously elected, I riot.

Quote from Booster SD on January 29, 2019, 10:06 amFreddy Galvis signs with TOR for $5M. Seems weird place for him to go, no chance for playoffs and they have a youngster in front of him that should get most of the playing time at SS, and Vlad Jr coming at 3B. Seems to me that Galvis at $5M would be a better signing for SD than Kinsler, especially since it sounds as Galvis has come to grips with his time as a front line starter might be gone.

Quote from MrPadre19 on January 29, 2019, 11:25 amGalvis is just a placeholder for Bichette in Toronto..as he would have been for Tatis here.
I saw it was for $4 mil with a club option for 2020 and a $1 mil buyout.
I'm guessing SD didn't offer $4 mil.
