Neither, I'd rather sign Anthony Rendon from the Nats instead. I think he fits best with our team. He really doesn't talk, at least to the media, but is a solid, lead by example guy. Anyone agree or disagree with me?
Also, not sure what to make of the Gray to the Reds trade, and no one really commented on the trade, except for one post in this thread. It didn't seem like the Reds gave up a lot to get him, I guess AJP, didn't want to give up a competitive balance draft pick. Any others with thoughts on the Gray trade? AJP has got to break the ice soon and make a couple of moves, since spring training is only 3 weeks away. Thanks in advance for any replies and Go Pads!

We normally think money is the key (usually is) but in Sonny Gray's case maybe there is more to getting him to sign an extension with CINN. He is from Nashville and went to Vanderbilt ... both a short hop from CINN. His Vanderbilt pitching coach is now the CINN pitching coach (I think) and his catcher at Vanderbilt is the back-up catcher in CINN. Of course CINN was also going the extra mile with the contract (money / years) for a rebound case.
Guessing he and the Padres would opt for the 1 year approach with him trying to prove the rebound for the bigger money deal ... that probably is not worth much (via trade) for the Padres in 2019.

Quote from MrPadre19 on January 22, 2019, 8:20 pmClose to home or not you would sure think he’d rather pitch in Petco than that bandbox in Cin.
It May have been the four year extension AJ didn’t want to commit too.

Quote from MrPadre19 on January 24, 2019, 11:28 amSo the Dodgers sign AJ Pollock to a guaranteed $50 mil deal with escalators.
So they basically trade Puig and Kemp for Pollock while making a little room for prospect Verdugo.
I for one like Pollock but I also will be glad to no longer see Kemp(and Grandal) absolutely KILL the Padres with their bats.
Well,at least they won't kill us as often.

I am pretty surprised to see Pollock get so little. 10/50 is well below what I thought his floor would be. His injuries aren't chronic in nature so I doubt that was holding teams back. I guess teams really are concerned with his lack of above average production since 2015?

Quote from fenn68 on January 24, 2019, 12:15 pmActually surprised he got 4 years as a 31 year old with ... maybe not chronic ... a concerning sequence of fractures (hand then elbow then thumb) plus his last three seasons have been nice but not near his earlier work.
Should fit with the LAD ... who needed a RHH bat in the mix ... since they love to mix and match which should cover a bit if the needs the downtime.
Looks like Verdugo is the OF insurance with Hernandez who is also some INF insurance.
