Quote from Henry Silvestre on January 12, 2023, 3:31 pmAppears Twins and Fish have discussed Pablo Lopez for Arraez + Keppler type return..per mlbtrade rumors.. if so it appears Marlins willing to take on $$ Pomz + Campy + Grish would be a better fit as CF/C are huge needs.. not sure 2B/1B/DH and COF are ..especially for a D first COF.. but I am talking myself out of trading either Grish or Campy or both in any deal to be honest.. a rebound and Campy improving even so slightly behind the plate and boy oh boy quantum leap in value by both..

MIA really wants to add to their offense plus a CF. Kepler deals with CF (good defense and OK offense but maybe a rebound). It is Arraez that takes the deal over the top as an elite hitter (but no defensive position). Actually sounds good for both teams.
MIA may willing to take on money but not for a pitcher and less for a pitcher with an injury history … should have zero interest in Pomeranz. If they take on money it is for a hitter.

I was on the Arraez train for a little while, but I wouldn't want him anymore. His bad knees greatly diminish his value.

Also in that article, was how MIN didnt view Lopez and a high enough caliber pitcher for which to part with Arraez. And MIA does not view Kepler as enough for Lopez, I think they are at a stale mate.

Quote from Randy Manese on January 12, 2023, 7:40 pmDon't see this happening. Other than pitchers, Miami's position player prospects are primarily infielders and may be ready in 1-2 years. Kepler is already 29 and a FA after this year; his salary is over 8M. They would get pretty much the same production from Grisham at far less the cost although we don't have anybody we would trade that equates to Arraez.

Quote from Randy Manese on January 12, 2023, 11:48 pmTeam to watch to unload pitching early is the Chicago White Sox, if they stumble out the gate and fall way behind Cleveland and Minnesota; the balanced schedule is bound to affect them adversely. Sox lost Abreu and Cueto and brought in Benintendi and Clevinger - which I think is a wash at best. Given team injury history and the fact they are going to have to start paying some of their younger players significantly more after 2023, I'm thinking they are going to look for some younger arms and dump salary on older guys like Lance Lynn and Giolito, who are free agents after 2023. Lynn might be available sooner than later with his 18.5M salary. Ideal situation is that Pomeranz is healthy and we can swap him out for Lynn, since Sox need a high leverage arm in the pen; might even send over Morejon and another lower level prospect pitcher - Iriarte, Wolf, Vela or Hawkins - if Morejon doesn't work out as a starter early on. Something to dream on.
What I would love to happen after the season is that Dodgers make a push for Ohtani and lose out (to Boston!) while the Padres sneak in and land Julio Urias right from under their nose - that would be epic!

Urias and the kid from Korea CF er.. would be epic ...as would Morejon + Groome (or some one like "young + controlled 5-6 yrs) stepping up .. Urias/Joe/Martinez/Morejon/Groome ALL proven in 2023 as SP.. even if the last 2 are 4.30 to 4.50 ERA of 220 IP (combined in 2023).. would be a = or slightly less $$ to (Yu + Snell and +$6 mil for Martinez ($36 roughly). .. With Hader/Pomz/Garcia exodus savings of minus $26mil.. and say CF dude KBO is 5/$60.... net minus $12mil.. before Arb.. and likely trades and non returning (Grish? Carp? JAKE ? Lugo?(only if Merrill is ready)... putting us at net minus $34 roughly vs 2023 or under tier 1.. close to $237 (in 2024) re-setting CBT . SP would be > from 1 and 2 ..slightly < at 3..and => at 4-5 if this were to happen going into 2024..with Mazur and others (Wolf?) Pressumably challenging for #6..as well as some others (like this yr..AJP brings onboard)..

These guys are becoming more and more sloppy as they try to post 1st and stuff.. Soto did not make $11.1 mil ..he made $17.1
Today is #MLB's version of National Signing Day:
There will be hundreds of arbitration-eligible players agreeing to terms today with the numbers quickly becoming public.
The biggest case: #Padres OF Juan Soto.
He earned $11.1 million last year and will certainly eclipse $20M.— Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) January 13, 2023
