Around the League...non Padres

Looks as though it is getting closer to have minor league players unionized under the umbrella of MLBPA (separate CBA negotiations though). So far, MLB has been silent on this effort (but doubt the like it).

Not sure what the owners can do to stop this movement given the bad press they have received over the past few years on how they have treated minor league players (pay, living conditions, etc.) plus they have lost a few recent lawsuits on pay (which arguable is below minimum wage for the low minor leaguers).

The first minor league CBA will be a real battle given the argued sub-standard pay/conditions currently in place. Should we expect a strike for 2023 shutting down the minors (or maybe 2024 if it takes that long to get to the process going)?

Apparently the MLBPA is trying to include the DSL players in the union effort.

At least a minor league strike should affect the Padres less than most other teams. The Padres have few high ceilinged prospects close to MLB outside of Campusano and Rosario, who seem to be MLB ready already. A strike in 2023 would affect the development of Merrill, Snelling, Mazur and Lizarraga but none of them are anywhere close to MLB. It won't affect Lesko or Williams since they will both still be in recovery from TJ until the end of 2023. At least that is something.

Aaron Judge Spotlight

Most home runs hit through the first 135 team games of a season:

Player HR Season Team
Barry Bonds 57 2001 SFG
Sammy Sosa 57 1999 CHC
Aaron Judge 54 2022 NYY
Mark McGwire 54 1998 STL
Babe Ruth 54 1921 NYY
Roger Maris 53 1961 NYY
Sammy Sosa 53 1998 CHC
Sammy Sosa 53 2001 CHC
Mark McGwire 52 1999 STL
Giancarlo Stanton 52 2017 MIA

I remember over a 4 year span, Sosa went yard 240 times!!!! Just think about that for a moment.....

Regardless of roids, that is pretty impressive.

Eric Lauer gave up 7 and didn't make it out of the 3rd. The former Padres pitchers are really coming up big for us these last few days.

With Carroll, Thomas and Varsho in the outfield Arizona will have a chance to overtake SF and be a huge pain for us in the future . They are all fast and look like they can hit .

Shame we don't have any speed in the outfield, well, maybe Grisham but.....

Outside of Tatis, this team plods. Not good.

They also have a couple more good young arms that should be up next year and Jordan Lawlar in 24'.

Plus plenty of money to spend.

Another reason our window may not be as far open as we think....along with the Giants who are going to be spending big the next 2 years I think.

Looks like Freddy Peralta for MIL is going on the IL for shoulder fatigue. That along with Lauer not being able to go, takes 2 SPs away from MIL. Should help SD keep their lead in the WC. Although SF did not help us yesterday, losing both in a double header.

24 left for both

Padres go 12-12

Brewers need to go 16-8 to bump us

Just win one at a time 1-0 mentality with an eye on the prize.. LFGSDP
