This has to be great for his Mental Health after hitting rock bottom in August.. love to see the kids love for Tatis..
Fernando Tatis Jr. is the Face of Baseball if you like it or not.
No one has made a bigger impact on the kids in the time since he’s been called up.
If you want to grow the sport then he’s your man. pic.twitter.com/478mE8epTo

All Star Coaching staff... really nice to see Bednard (Dominican) in there ..huge for the Latin players to have him and his elder (lol) Nelson Cruz around for guidance on and off the clubhouse/and bench..

Quote from fenn68 on February 3, 2023, 4:47 pmAlthough is would be better with an upgrade in SP 4-6 … I am not all that concerned that the current group can’t cover the 162 game season and get the Padres into the playoffs (and even the NL West).
Padres make the playoffs last season in a Division with the 111 win LAD. Since then the Padres vastly improved the offense with Bogaerts, Tatis, Soto, Cruz, and Carpenter … then built a deep quality bullpen with a full season of Hader and a settled in Suarez to cover the end of games and Garcia, Wilson, Hill, Pomeranz to set-up … better group than 2022. Top 3 SP remain.
Then consider the #4-6 last season (despite the “big names”) a somewhat mediocre performance (mid-4.00 ERA) over the season with a lot of ups and downs … not exactly a big threshold to achieve by the current mix to stay the same on a team with vastly improved offense / RP.
Also, giving Preller the benefit of the doubt on the current mix of Martinez, Lugo, Groome, Morejon, Teheran, et al being effective enough to deliver a mid-4 ERA for the #4-6 SP … similar to 2022 when they went to the playoffs over the course of 162 games.
Padres will … with their current roster … deliver more wins than 2022 and make the playoffs.
Every team has the concern about covering a critical injury and none really have an effective back ups. Same as the Padres.
Did not do it but not sure the Padres #4-6 (projected) will be inferior to every other team’s #4-6 while having the superior offense / RP.

Projected Zips for 4 to 6 are pretty decent actually > 2022 actuals.. with a better offense all we need is that 19 wins 20 Ls Sean/Clev and Gore deliver to be flipped to 24 Ws and 15 Ls and we should be Gucci with our 1st 3 remaining consistently solid.. even if Snell does his 1st half 2nd half thing..if he does not this team should win 100+ for the 1st time in its History

This is good news .. dont mess with Manny offer him a solid deal and get this over with one check mark down before Hone opener would be awesome
Manny Machado says that the priority w/his contract is on AJ Preller, Peter Seidler and the organization. He's expressed himself about where he stands and wants to focus on bringing a championship to this city. He says he loves it here and is very open to resigning longterm.

Quote from Randy Manese on February 4, 2023, 1:09 pmOne thing I like about the Padres everyday lineup (once they get Tatis back) is that they have a lot of very good OBP guys thanks to the recent additions to the team. Soto is in a world by himself and has a career .424 OBP with his .388 last year the LOWEST by far of his career - you know he is going to bounce back. Bogaerts, .356 career, but last two season .370 and above. Tatis, career .369 OBP. Machado .341 career but rising the last 2 years around .360-ish. Carpenter has a .369 career but slipped from 2018 until last year when it was a remarkable .412 - expect him moving closer to his career norm this year and then you have Cruz with a career .349 but as recently as 2021 in the first half of the season with Minnesota was at .370.
Further, could see bounce back OBP's from Cronenworth and Grisham, who both dropped 20-30 points off what we would expect their OBP to be, .345+ and .330+, respectively. Finally we get to Kim who had a large bump into OBP but likely will never reach the .370 level he had in the KBO. It is not out of the realm of possibility that he gets into the mid-to-high .340's.
High OBPs keeps the line moving and gets batters to see pitchers more often over a shorter period of time. With the line-up the Padres have this could knock out starters early and let the hitters feast on back of the bullpen guys when a large lead has already been built up. Can't wait to see this Big Bad Brown Machine in action!

Quote from Jeremy Hill on February 4, 2023, 4:09 pmWell Fan Fest was a disaster. By the time I got down there they had hit capacity and lines were still wrapped around the block. My friends that actually got inside gave up pretty quickly because it was so crowded they couldn't actually get anywhere.

Sign of a great team a great owner and a hungry City.... also a new "learning" curve for the franchise... 150k... I heard SF had a very successful famfest with "Large crowds" of 10 to 12k today.. a quote I saw.. 😆 🤣 😂

I think everyone is forgetting about my sleeper for the back end of the rotation, Wilmer Font, who is returning the KBO league, where he made 28 starts last year with a 2.69 ERA. plus got strikeouts at a 23.3% rate, walking only 4.7% of batters faced and he got ground balls on 51.6% of balls in play.
Who knows how everything will play out between Martinez, Lugo, Morejon, Groome, Weathers, Teheran & Honeywell, but I think Font should be included in that conversation. Maybe he becomes a better version of Crismatt last year. At least the #4-6 rotation spots should be a good competition and gives us all something to watch this spring training.
I want to break the Dog-ers 10-year stranglehold on the division and then hopefully win the franchise's first World Series title ever! Long-time suffering Padres fans deserve to have such a season! Go Pads!

Font is almost always on my list.. he has the MLB experience and like Martinez went over seas and re-invented himself.. as to beating the guys in front of him entering ST its certainly one of the stories I will be following...
I can see a 1 through 4 of Yu/Snell/Musgrove/and Martinez
With a revolving #5 and #6 of steady solid SP.. revolving because of IP limits from guys like Lugo/Morejon/Honeywell (health).. as they stretch out or find (Nick Martinez type roles in 2023. I can see a world where these 3 combine for 30 starts (10 each, and 100 IP each on avg factoring in long relief and BP use) for the #5 spot.. and then Groome/Font/Teheran/Weathers/Avila/Khner all getting some sort of starts of healthy, be it a couple, a handful or more if performing well..
Another thing of having some marginal or better depth at #5/#6 some with long control is that it could make one available for a trade at the deadline for a Sonny Gray without costing us higher upside down the line prospects like a Lizarraga or a Wolf..
If we have 2 or 3 guys who establish themselves as good #4/#5 starters but maybe with that as a ceiling (for speculating purposes lets say Weathers/Groome and Honeywell all look very solid AND Khner and Avila get a couple starts and look ok..while none has top 3 that 'logjam' of back end arms could be a bargaining chip in a 2 month rental like Gray..especially for a team like the Twins or Brewers who may want such a controlled 'ready' arm vs one down the line like perhaps the A's or Pirates may prefer..
