This would be the 2024-25 SP FA class for the more expensive (return wise) post trade deadline + 1 yr of control... types who might be available

To be honest Nellie and his history of PED suspension and coming back from it could be the Father in the clubhouse Tatis needs to navigate his comeback...

Also see Nellie having a pretty big yr in this lineup... #1 he gets elite protection..#2 The most shifted guy in baseball can't be shifted no more #3 dont forget he fixed eye problem with surgery this offseason.. love this guy..BUT agree 💯  a SP is the key...

Who knows man maybe the treshold is $300 mil and Nellie and Pablo Lopez are a no brainer for SDP...just not wasting $$ on mediocre adds at highish $$ ..

Proven impact SP or bust! (Good chance Preller stays pat until the trade deadline).

I agree with all that you say, and as long there is no long term injury to Darvish, Musgrove, and Snell this team will be extremely good. And waiting until the trade deadline would make sense.

The caveat being that outside of the main three, the balance is a lot of boom or bust. All of the other options could be great or fall apart. I just think the potential of this team, can not be wasted on an injury that could be addressed now before its an issue down the road.

Yes, only trade Kim or Grisham for the right piece, if not another good deal will come along.

Kim/Campusano for Verdugo/Brandon Walter?

If BOS is looking to compete this year, which would be why they would trade for Kim. Then why would they give up their starting RFer?

Plus, for $6.9M in possible arb, dont know if Verdugo offers enough at the plate to be any value to SD.

I would prefer Murphy over Walter. Murphy threw more innings last season, so probably ready for more of a workload over Walter. Plus, Murphy was born in the LA area and went to college at USD. So some local ties. 😉

Not that this is even a remote possibility, but still, hard pass on Verdugo. I'd much rather bring Profar back at around that cost.

The deal I suggested with Bos gets us a good young controllable SP and a corner outfielder for our 4th SS and a Catching prospect we apparently aren’t interested in giving a chance.

We need cheap SP and starting level outfielders .

I’d be OK with a SP from Miami along with Jesus Sanchez…..but that’s gonna cost a lot more.

Nellie baby wtf!

Wonder what he will get in salary?

He apparently is a real plus clubhouse guy for the Latin players besides having some hitting skills left (we think).

Hard to envision signing Cruz without a trade of Kim lined-up … money in part but at 43 and a big bulky guy Cruz will have to play most of the games as the DH … big 43 year old power hitters need to keep the reps up or timing will just fall apart.

Hence, Cruz DH … Carpenter 1B … Cronenworth 2B … Kim dealt for ????

Ideally sign Cruz for less than Kim’s $7MM and open more payroll space for that SP.

Walter would be fine, but Verdugo is not good, and will cost almost $7M via arbitration. Yes he hits for BA, but his OBP is low, and slugging is low for a COF.

Could suggest Houck or Walter or Murphy and Rafaela instead of Verdugo for Kim and Campusano.

How does that help the 2023 Padres to win the pennant? Give up the starting 2B and the back-up catcher for basically prospects and/or Houck who was primarily a RP last season and only pitched 60 innings in the ML. None solve the 2023 issue of a proven #4 SP.

Way under estimating the value of Kim / Campusano in 2023 and over estimating the value of the prospects.

I do not underestimate the value of Kim. And I dont know if BOS could offer the best deal for Kim to be honest. I was replying to Mr Ps suggestion.

Houck is not my preferred choice of the three, I would prefer Murphy. He threw 150 innings last season. But all three P are MLB ready, and so is Rafaela as well according to MLB.com. So yes, its possible to say that Murphy could help this season, probably more so than Groome, Weathers, Morejon, and Honeywell. If MLB is wrong about their readiness, that is where I go astray.

Yes, I think Campusano stinks, and can be easily replaced by resigning Alfaro. I think you over estimate the ability of Campusano. For SD success, I hope Im wrong.

And Rafaela could be a very good piece, and could help should Grisham struggle at the plate or in the field like he did last season.

Why do some of you insist on trading Kim, Grisham and whoever else?

Everybody mentioned is just a guy and none of them upgrade the Padres but moving Kim, Grisham for anything less than a totally legit #3 starting pitcher is just noise....I get it...people are bored but some of these trades are borderline ridiculous...3 team deals and moving 5 or 6 guys for nothing more than 3 or 4 guys doesn't put this team over the top and without Kim last year this team doesn't make the playoffs and the same can be said about Grisham....you don't trade away GG defense for just guys.

Now regarding a SP....Cueto is gone but Michael Wacha is still available....No QO from the Red Sox so no draft compensation and could be had for maybe 7 to 8 million...if healthy a legit piece for the starting rotation and better yet...don't have to trade Kim, Grisham or anybody else...save those moves for the trade deadline if needed.
