That is a pretty feasible base idea. Miami trying to improve for 2023 would love Reynolds .

Guessing that Grisham would have to go to PITT in this scenario … maybe the same pieces we have been suggesting (eg Campusano) may have to go to PITT.

PITT would be the problem child in this scenario given their lofty demands.

I am not sure that PIT would want Grisham. Grisham is only controlled for 3 more seasons, and already in arb, so his money is starting to go up. Would think that if they are looking to man CF, and not really looking to contend this season, Azocar and Zavala might have more appeal to PIT.

Pirates in a 3 way could be interesting..

JT Brubaker..

I see good metrics to work with here..

In a bold move would you trade Hader + Grish for Bednar and JT Brubaker ..

Perhaps landing a Marlin spec SP in the overall return

Grish + Luzardo +++ to Pitt

Hader + Reynolds to Marlins

Bednar + JT B + other pieces  to Padres

Hard decision on Hader..but Bednar is no chopped liver and fits > $$ wise for the next few seasons... it appears the Fish are turning the dial to be a pest or even bump 1 or more of Mets/Phillies/Braves out of the postseason.. if they added Reynolds and Hader with that SP rotation .. they could

If there is a problem with any of the young Marlins pitchers it is injury risk and giving up HRs.  If we are to take on that risk, could we be willing to include one or more of our oft-injured but potentially high ceiling pitchers (Morejon/Castillo) for one of theirs (Sanchez) to expand the deal?  This assumes the other part of the deal nets us either Rogers or Luzardo.

We signed a 4.30 ERA (2022 as SP).. to a potential option 2/32 ($16mil per),deal.. in their careers Cabrera is closer to Pablo Lopez than he is to Nick Mart..and has an absolutely sexy winning % if your into W/L records

Yes, but we did not have the CBT issues that we have this season, so Rodriguez contract is more of an issue this season.

I keep forgetting Morejon.. I am starting to buy into "using" Adrian as a trade chip...for a SP or even a C .. How available would Ashcraft SP from Reds be? I know Greene and Ludololo (or however his name is spelled) are off limits.. but an Ashcraft + C Stephenson trade (3way or straight up Pads/Reds) would be huge Blockbuster AJP special

I am all over the place lately ..but so is AJP so we can't discount anyone or anything ..

On a 2nd Note:

How many Padres are playing in the WBC?

Yu..Manny..Soto..Xander ..off the top of my head..

Position players I see no problem with ..but obviously P (innings) I am always a bit worried about.. Still vs a Traditional ST..missing sone position players should give extra ABs to guys like Rosario/Batten/Dahl and Dixon (others).. as they battle for the 26/40 .. same with P..

More and More I think about SP and more and more I like the idea of just letting Avia/Honeywell/Wethers and Groome go get after it.. some of the stuff these guys have to various degrees is just as good as some of the younger controllable guys we've been discussing..and is not like Gore/Clev and Sean set the bar that high for the 300 IP of 19W - 20 L 4.50 ERA we need to cover..and with improve Offense I could argue eeven 19 W -20 L 4.75 ERA from 4th thru 6th SP combined would be => 2022 replacement level..

Marlins signing Cueto gives Padres an opportunity to get one of Marlins young "surplus" pitchers.  Don't think we have enough or want to give up current players/prospects to get Lopez, however, may be able to pull off a Cabrera, Rogers or Luzardo deal.  I like the lefties (Rogers and Luzardo) over Cabrera but it really depends upon what we would have to give up.

Certainly, there will be strong competition for these young controllable pitchers; I just hope we don't give up any of our big 4 - Merrill, Zavala, Lesko and Lizarraga.  Marlins probably want  one or more of these players - Grisham, Kim and/or Campusano besides a next tier lower level prospect.  If Marlins willing to include Berti and take one of our more pricey RP's (Hill or Garcia), then could have a deal since that kind of package could potentially reduce our AAV.

I have Snelling (#10 lefty spec per MLB rankings) at #4 ahead of Lizarraga.. who I have behind Mazur at #6 overall..

I dont think there is anyway that PIT takes Hader. They have no need for him. They are not going to contend this season, even in the NL Central, and Hader only has one year of control, and will make $13M+ this season via arb. And with the control and cost of Bednar, there is no way that PIT is giving him up at this point in time.

And as I mentioned in another comment, I dont think that PIT would  have much interest in Grisham either. I dont think he fits their window of contention. Plus, Grisham has just entered into arb as well, and will just get more expensive each year.

Still think there is potential for a 3 team deal with PIT, MIA, and SD. Thinking IF MIA can get Reynolds, SD can keep Grisham, and still wiggle either Brubaker or Luzardo out of the deal.

Correa back to the Twins now pending a physical. What a strange saga his free agency has become.

Apparently now, Correa back to MIN. 6 years and $200M, contains a vesting option for an additional 4 years and $70M. Wonder if they are going to have physical issues as well. Possibly not, considering they had him last season, and had offered him 10/$285M.

Depending on how this plays out, takes MIN out of Kim interest.

Wonder if MIN would still be open to a deal of Kepler for Pomeranz? MIN has a glut of LHH Ofers, and SD a glut of RP, and the money is close to equal. Might just be a good baseball trade.
