Welcome to San Diego Christian

* He has been spotted in Poway

Apparently it is MIN, not SD. 3 year deal, no money terms yet.

Yup .. Twinkies..

Rodon close to signing with Yankees….rumors only so.🤷🏼‍♂️

According to MLBTR, Vazquez 3 yrs/$30M, to MIN.

Wow … that is a year longer with a higher AAV than was being projected.

I can see why the Padres did not top that … like Vazquez but not that much for a 33 year old catcher.

I sure have an odd feeling about the last two off-seasons...

Strike out on Suzuki

Strike out on Turner

Strike out on Judge

Strike out on Senga

Strike out on Vazquez

Strike out on any material pitching or offensive additions at all?

Also, Scherzer refused to come here via trade...

The only major piece we were able to attract was Bogaerts, and even then we only did so by absolutely obliterating all other offers.

Should we be reading into this or what?

EDIT: To be clear, I have been adamant with friends and family that there isn't a "trend" here, and that each case has its own reasons and context for not going our way...

BUT...

It is starting to feel a little weird.

That said, with the number of shortstops we have at the MLB level, it sure feels as though we're in prime position to cash in on Merrill in exchange for a controllable SP.

Judge, I dont think anything short of an extra $100M was going to stop him from resigning with the NYY. There is a glamour that comes along with being a lifetime Yankee.

Turner, happy wife-happy life.

It appears to me, a majority of the high level Japanese have gone to bigger metropolitan areas. So that explains Senga and Suzuki. NYY, NYM, BOS, CHI, Darvish and Ichiro being the exceptions.

I havent read anything about Scherzer refusing a trade to SD. He had the right to, but did not read that he was going to. Moreso that LAD did outbid SD for the two of them.

Plus, dont forget, Preller puts a value on a player and usually does not exceed that, so if someone bids more than his value, so be it.

Just an observation … did not do a major analysis … but seems as though the FA signings are consistently higher than expected but, in the few trades, the returns are lighter than most expect. Clearly those big deals that include Top 100 prospects don’t seem to be happening (I will ignore Soto last year).

So, if the Padres go to the trade route the market may allow them to avoid using Merrill / Lesko types and maybe focus more on Rosario, Knehr, and that level. The selling team has little choice if the buyers will not budge on the elite prospects who are seeming carrying a major value.

Yeah, like I said, there's context and reason behind each one. The conversation was meant to be about the overall trend given we all understand that.
