The Brewers part of this makes ZERO sense to me... Good for them

Not sure Murphy - Contreras - the specs is a good trade for Braves who already had D'Arnaud + Contreras...

The Blue Jays have agreed to a three-year contract with free-agent righty Chris Bassitt, reports ESPN’s Jeff Passan. The Meister Sports client will be guaranteed $63MM on the deal.

Not only did he not sign with the LAD or SF, he left the NL all together. Should work well for SD.

We actually owned him last yr so not sure it helps

OAK gets another pitcher from ATL … Royber Salinas a 21 year old who is in A ball … big K%. #18 on ATL’s list but young and maybe better prospect than the rating. Still would have though ATL would have received at least one blue chipper.

MILW’s involvement is just a ???????? Is the a problem with Contreras?

So Oak gets Ruiz / then Atlantas #1 P spec .. #6 and #18 for Murphy....or because of deeper system the Equivalent of Merrill + Lesko + Rosario and Ornelas for Murphy... pretty good get for A's especially considering 3 high upside P's

Plus have to factor in (except for Salinas) OAK adds are ML ready which is a good thing if OAK does not want to wait 3-4 years to start the rebuild.

ATL did give a lot for 3 years of Murphy from someone’s perspective I guess but as one of the top catchers (and elite defense) he is perceived as a major upgrade from Contreras who can hit but is a poor defensive option.

So I can partially see the net on ATL and OAK … just not the MILW piece.

Probably not a strategy that appeals to most but considering the remaining FA SP are likely $10MM or above for a 4.50 ERA and some with significant injury risk … might the Padres just punt on adding one of the better unsigned FA  … go for some rehab options on minor league make good deal and gamble on Teheran et al being able to deliver a 4.5o ERA … maybe in some combo over the course of the season.

Internally the Padres may have projection on the in-house pieces … Teheran, Morejon, Groome, and maybe Knehr or Avila and except for Teheran all can be move up and down to AAA as needed. Remember we are shoot for a 4.50 ERA to just break even with any of the FA.

Take the savings and fill the offensive holes were the next group internally are not even close to ML quality.

Saw a report from Boston today that the Padres are really intensified their run for Vazquez. Apparently Vazquez is one of Bogaert’s best friends and the trade last summer really upset Bogaerts.

Another plus for Vazquez is that he as World Series experience and has played in pressure situations … so value for a playoff contender.

BS story about Tatis to NYY this morning.. but Hector Gomez posting a picture of Tatis as a NYY is funny.. need to share

😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆

Apparently it is MIN, not SD. 3 year deal, no money terms yet.
