Key Stats: LHP Jackson Wolf 3 IP, H, 5 K; RHP Logan Gillaspie (W, 1-1) 3 IP, 4 K; C Rodolfo Durán 2-for-4, HR (3), 2 R, 5 RBI, BB; 1B Jose Miranda 2-for-5, 3B, 2 R, RBI; DH Pablo Reyes 2-for-3, HR (1), 3 R, RBI, 2 BB; SS Sung-Mun Song 2-for-5, R, RBI, BB; CF Carlos Rodriguez 3-for-5, 2B, SB (1), R, 3 RBI; LF Samad Taylor 2-for-5, HR (2), 2 R, RBI, BB

Prospect Watch: El Paso scored 10 runs in the first four innings and cruised to a 14-1 win. To ensure his availability in case he’s needed, backstop Rodolfo Durán was removed from the game about 20 minutes after Freddy Fermin took a foul ball to the mask and exited the big league contest. Before that, the 28-year-old connected on his second homer in three games and third overall as part of a 2-for-4 night. After starting the year slowly, Durán has pushed his OPS up to .772 on the young season. An 11-year minor league veteran who signed with the Padres before 2025, Durán has spent much of the last three seasons in Triple-A. If he is called up, it would be his Major League debut. … With his rehab coming to an end this Friday, Sung-Mun Song is finally beginning to heat up. Song went 2-for-5 with a walk and now has multi-hit games in three of his last four starts. He still has only two extra-base hits in 48 plate appearances – results backed up by a hard-hit rate in the lower quintile and a 0% barrel rate – but he has cut his strikeout rate and is hitting .293/.396/.341 this month. … Samad Taylor is making his case should the Padres find themselves in need of a speedy infield/outfield bench piece. The 27-year-old hit his second home run of the season and reached base three times Wednesday and is now hitting .289 with a .838 OPS. So far this season, he has played all three outfield positions, but he also has over 550 career games logged at second. … The Padres had planned to use Logan Gillaspie as a multi-inning reliever, but the righty struggled through his first five outings. With El Paso going to its second-straight bullpen game, the squad needed more from him, and he responded with three perfect innings, striking out a season high four. It was the first time he went multiple innings without allowing a run, and his first three clean innings of the year.  Gillaspie had a 2.57 ERA over seven innings last year for the Padres, and was one of the final cuts this spring. … Apparently Garrett Hawkins is not unhittable. After four scoreless outings to open the year, the fastball-heavy righty gave up his first run of the season and allowed his first walks of the month. He landed only five of his 16 fastballs in the zone.

Midland RockHounds 9, Missions 2

Key Stats: RHP Victor Lizarraga 1.1 IP, 6 H, 8 R, 6 ER, 2 K, HBP, WP; LHP Harry Gustin IP, 2 H, BB, 3 K; RHP Francis Pena 2 IP, H, BB, 3 K; SS Ryan Jackson 1-for-4, BB, SB (2); DH Romeo Sanabria 1-for-4, 2B, RBI; RF Tirso Ornelas 2-for-4, R

Prospect Watch: The RockHounds put up an eight run second inning put the game out of reach early as the Missions fell to 3-8 on the year. Victor Lizarraga‘s nightmare start to the 2026 campaign continued. After he walked six in his first start and didn’t make it out of the first inning his last time out, he recorded just one out in the second while surrendering six hits, and a hit batter Wednesday. On the year, Lizarraga has walked 11 in 6.2 innings, while batters are hitting .407 off of him.  The 22-year-old out of Imperial Beach now has a 20.25 ERA. … Francis Peña pitched two scoreless innings, striking out three.  After struggling through much of the last year with inconsistent control and decreased velocity, he’s showing signs of putting things together over the last few outings, punching out five in three innings. Batters are hitting just .105 off him., so if he can stay in the zone, he has an opportunity to reassert himself. … Tirso Ornelas had his second multi-hit game for San Antonio and was the only Mission to do so.  On the early-going in his bounce-back from an injury in spring training, Ornelas is hitting .267 with a .713 OPS.   … After an ice cold start, Romeo Sanabria is showing signs of getting on-track. His RBI double gave him back-to-back games with an extra base hit for the first time this season.

TinCaps at Lake County rained out

With continued bad weather expected in the Cleveland area today, the make-up game wasn’t scheduled until Friday.

Transactions: Prior to the game, right-hander Tucker Musgrove joined the club after a minor tweak right before the Spring Breakout game cost him a few extra weeks of build-up in the desert. While the organization is still expecting him to work on a reliever’s twice-a-week schedule, he was scheduled to serve as the opener Wednesday. The Padres’ 17th overall prospect flashed elite stuff, including an upper-90s fastball, in the AFL, but at 24 years old, he’s thrown just 20 professional innings.

Stockton Ports 9, Storm 8 (10 innings)

Key Statistics: RHP Jesus Castro 4 IP, 2H, 2 ER, 3 K, 2 BB;  Carlos Medina 3.2 IP, H, 6 K; C Truitt Madonna 1-for-5, RS, 2B; RF Kale Fountain 2-for-5, 2B, RS, 2 RBI, SB (4); LF Conner Westenburg 0-for-4, 2 RS, 2 SB (9); CF Ryan Wideman 0-for-4, RS, BB, 2 SB (7)

Prospect Watch: The Storm stole six bases which, paired with some sloppy defense by the Ports, led to their first six runs, but they gave up the early lead and ultimately fell in extra innings. With a run already in in the second inning and two runners on, Conner Westenburg reached on a forceout to put runners on the corner. Over the next five pitches, he stole second, allowing the run to come in from third on the throw down, stole third without a throw, and came home on a wild pitch. Ryan Wideman then drew a walk and one-upped his fellow outfielder. He broke on the left-handed pitcher’s first move, but when that turned out to be the start of a pick-off move, he simply outran the throws and stole second easily. Two pitches later, he stole third and came home when the throw went down the left field line. Westenburg now leads the California League with nine steals and, despite an 0-for-4 day, is still hitting .455 with a 1.059 OPS. Wideman, the Padres’ third round pick, is second on the circuit with seven steals. The speedy centerfielder has not been caught stealing since opening day.  … Kale Fountain continued to rebound after a 1-for-17 start to the season, collecting his second double of the year while joining the fun with his fourth stolen base. The 20-year-old was drafted as a third baseman, then played all but four games at first base last year, and this year has only played right field.  As Fountain starts to heat up, so does the Storm offense. … Jesus Castro (no relation to the long-time catcher of the same name in the organization), made his second start since joining Lake Elsinore and worked four innings. The 18-year-old signed out of Guasave, Mexico, at the start of the 2025 signing period and became the youngest member of the Padres’ signing class to come stateside. … Working in relief, his countryman Carlos Medina had the best game of his young career. The 21-year-old was signed in December after pitching for Monterrey the last two years. After giving up a run in each of his first four outings he settled in and dominated, allowing only one baserunner over 3.2 innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out six.
