Drury will cost more than Myers.

Per MLBTR Drury will likely get a multi-year deal as a 3B (or utility type) ... money ? I would worry that 2022 is his career year and all the big stats came while in CINN. So, a re-sign if priced right ... which is unlikely from the Padres perspective given his SD stats (other than the HR).
MLBTradeRumors sees Bell as one of the two top 1B on the market (other is Abreu) which suggests he will be more costly as some team will pay up. Even in their write-up the admit he is prone to extended down spells (e.g 2020, the first half of 2021, and now the time with the Padres). They did not mention that he is a very bad 1B (should be a DH). Expensive, long down spells, bad defense ... spells a hard pass for me.
Myers MLBTR don't see much of a future but see him getting a ML contract. IF that view is the contract should be very favorable.
Not excited about any of the three given the potential downside issues in relation to the likely price to sign. However, no legit alternatives without similar faults.
I would stay away from Bell since I don't find him compelling but he will get a multi-year bigger dollar deal ... likely too much for mediocracy. Over the past few years Myers has been the better hitter than Drury and the better defensive option ... even in the 2nd half of 2022 Myers has better production. So, if Drury is holding for a multi-year deal and bigger money ... I would stick with the lower cost option in Myers (and his shortcomings) ... there just is not enough to justify Drury for the long haul.

Quote from fenn68 on September 27, 2022, 10:42 amI will add the hype around Castellanos last winter after his year in CINN ... turned into a big contract with PHIL ... and he is basically a bust (for the money). Don't trust either CINN or COLO offense stats.

The Rockies would be crazy not to at least offer Myers a contract.

Quote from Henry Silvestre on September 27, 2022, 11:26 amLF/CF/RF/DH Joc Petterson (strictly platoon vs RHP) played for 1 yr $6mil in 2022... as a "limited" yet productive 2 AS and 2X WS champ... can we ink him on a 3/27 (8/9/10per) 3yr deal?.. his power and OBP from the Left side are a good balance play.. he can DH and/or spell LF/CF/RF vs RHP.. and should bat 4th or 5th vs RHP..
Also if you've watched SF vs Pads ...Manny and him tend to be super chatty (friends?) During games ..whenever Joc makes it to 3B

Steve Adams11:17The Giants are the popular pick because Judge is a Northern California native, the Giants pursued Harper in free agency, they have the money and the 2022 season was pretty disappointing.
I can see plenty of sense there, but I also think (cue the eye rolls) that AJ Preller's quest to pursue every marquee name that hits free agency or the trade market would make things interesting. For all the big moves, the Padres "only" have about $127MM on the books next year. Signing Judge would for sure make them three-time luxury offenders, but their farm is pretty stripped down after the Soto trade... so if they want to add another big-ticket item, free agency is the way to go. Soto and Judge in the corners would be something.
11:18That's just speculative, of course, and you can bet there'll be interest from a wide number of teams. Rangers, Giants, Padres, Mets, Dodgers, Cubs... there'll be dark-horse teams on the periphery, too. Judge's free agency is going to be bonkers and going to be funImagine Tatis/Soto/Manny/Judge 1 through 4... Dios Mio!

This is soooo wrong, I dont even know where to start. The only way the $127M mark is close, is if SD fields a team of like 10 players!

Go look at this website, and you will see that not counting arbitration players, 40 man players, and the other contributions that go towards the CBT number, SD is already at $153.5M for 2023.
And 2 of the arbitration players (Soto and Hader) will command almost $40M just between the two of them.
