To MINN: Grisham ($2.6MM …3 years control); Pomeranz ($10MM … 1 year control); Crismatt (league minimum … 4 years control but no minor league options).
To SD: Kepler ($9.5MM … 1 year control) … plus defender for RF and better hitter than Grisham (maybe .230ish)
Grisham and Kepler are both “rebound” candidates … added the other pieces to balance the money and clear out the log jam in the pen.
Note: not getting Arraez ($5MM with 3 control years) who is the AL batting champ for for less than a proven ML SP … not something the Padres have to offer.
I will be honest, I am a little confused that MIN wants Grisham with them already having Buxton. I know he has had injury issues, but he has been healthy recently. And Grisham is not a COF bat, are they sliding Buxton to a corner??
And to be honest, with the signing of Bogaerts and if MIN gets outbid for Correa. I could still see an expanded deal with MIN.
Kim, Grisham, Pomeranz, and Crismat for Kepler and Arraez.

Seidler is no longer dipping his foot in the pool, he is diving in head first. I would expect another bat if Grisham is traded AND at least one more SP, if not two.
SD is not getting caught flat footed this season with pitching like 2022.
I am guessing we going +$30mil to fill last holes

😆 🤣 😂 😹
This is exactly what old Padres would have done following a LAD signing like Xander to SD... Well they say immitatation is the greatest form of flattery... guess LAD has become the Padres of the 80's
#Dodgers have signed Jason Heyward to a minor league deal.

Quote from BoosterSD on December 8, 2022, 11:00 amSince its a little slow here at the office, and I'm a little bored. I have been playing GM/manager in my head, trying figure out the last pieces for this team, and the batting order, defensive positions for the most success in the 2023 season.
For one, I think we almost all agree that Kim is the better defensive SS; however, Bogaerts has never played 2B, and at least Kim has a few games there, so I will place Bogaerts at SS, although watching some of his highlights today, I think his arm is better suited for 2B, and I wish we could play him there.
I know that many on here dont like the idea of Tatis in the lead off spot, but his bat really produces there, his speed plays there, and I know you think its a waste of his power Mr. P. but I dont think there is a better option at this time. So with all that being said, here is my line up and positions. And the players career stats in that line up position.
Tatis (R)- RF .317 BA, .382 OBP, .627 SLG, .971 OPS,
Grisham (L) - CF .256 BA, .346 OBP, .496 SLG .842 OPS ** I know, read below.
Machado (R) - 3B .276 BA, .339 OBP, .497 SLG, .835 OPS
Sotos (L) - LF .294 BA, .412 OBP. .585 SLG, .996 OPS
Bogaerts (R) - SS .307 BA, .383 OPB, .518 SLG, .901 OPS
Brantley (L) - DH .299 BA, .373 OPB, .482 SLG, 854 OPS
Nola (R) - C .288 BA, .358 OPB, .429 SLG, .787 OPS
Kim (R) - 2B .321 BA, .424 OBP, .432 SLG .856 OPS
Crone (L) - 1B .333 BA, .381 OBP, .889 SLG, 1.270 OPS
I know it sounds crazy having Grisham bat 2nd, but its where he has performed best, and with Tatis on ahead him, the new shift rules, his ability to bunt, and Machado behind him, he should see a lot of fastballs to hit. And Crone 9th is odd, and his numbers there are ungodly because he only has a couple of ABs in that spot, but Nola and Kims numbers are better not at the 9th spot. Plus Jake has some speed, and he should be able to flip an inning, bringing Tatis up with runners on board.
So we need to sign Brantley, and I think we have a monster line up.

Quote from BoosterSD on December 8, 2022, 11:31 amSo currently in our rotation we have Darvish, Snell, Musgrove, and Martinez. With possible candidates in Groome, Weathers, and Morejon who I read the other day is going to get stretched out to become a SP. Groome and Weathers have AAA performance warts on them, and Morejon probably cant go more than 75 innings in 2023 coming back from injury.
Do we have money and ability to get Senga and how does he perform in ML v Japan, especially for the money he is going to cost. And if we do, then do we go cheapish and get Davies for around $7.5M?
Or do we look at signing two out of the group of Syndergaard, Stripling, Cueto, or Archer? They will cost less than Senga, but have ML performance to go on.

Quote from 3fingersplit on December 8, 2022, 11:38 amGiven the signing of Boegarts and all of the position moves that entails...Tatis - OF, Kim 2B, Jake 1B, the need in my mind is at least 1 starting pitcher and a versatile player or players that can plug into either the infield or outfield or both without breaking the bank...even though the bank seems to be quite deep. Keeping in mind that the Padres NEED to extend Machado if he were to opt out and I think he would have five years left of his original ten year deal at 30 million a year...sweeten the last five years at between 36 and 40 million. Need to extend Darvish who is scheduled to make 19 million this next season before potentially becoming a free agent in 2024...sweeten his deal and extend him at say 3 years / 80 million for a AAV of 26.6 million. I would extend Snell also who is set to make 16.6 million this season...sweeten his deal and extend him for just a bit less because of consistency concerns so maybe 3 years / 75-78 million for a AAV of 25-26 million. Musgrove is already locked in at 5 years / 100 million, Martinez is set to make 10 million, *16 million, *16 million over the next 3 years ( * Club Option) so the final pitching piece of the puzzle is Senga...no QO attached so 5 years / 120 million or 6 years / 145 million. That would set the Padres up for the next 3 to 4 years on the mound, Tatis is locked up, Soto is a huge extension coming after already turning down a 13 year/425 million offer from the Nationals....10 years at 420 million ?
Makes for a huge payroll but this core would be in place to perhaps not only get to the World Series but win multiple titles....so many moving parts to be sure for the future but to finish the roster for this season...what are realistic options that would cover the needs....Meyers and Drury back, Profar ....or ?

Don’t forget Teheran who is at a $6MM if he makes the squad … he may be more ready for the #5/#6 than some of the others.
Wouldn’t touch Archer or Cueto at this point … Stripling will be a lot more expensive than you think (would spend the extra for Senga) … just not a fan of the current version of Syndergaard but would guess he would not come cheap.
Senga or bust!

Quote from MrPadre19 on December 8, 2022, 11:59 amThink about this...if Manny doesn't opt out and we are able to extend Soto...we could have FOUR future Hall of Fame players going in with Brown caps.
Xander the one that may be questionable depending on his last few years production.
How cool is that?!

Quote from sportwarrior on December 8, 2022, 12:07 pmI'm with Fenn... Senga or bust at this point. And it definitely feels like that could be Seidler's mentality too.
Senga (and maybe one more depth signing)
Brantley for DH (Or JD Martinez? Matt Carpenter?)
And some kind of trade we sort of (or don't at all) see coming....
